Job Description
Insight Global is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Component Engineer responsible for managing the selection, qualification, and lifecycle of electro-mechanical components such as connectors, sheet metal parts, and thermal solutions used in networking products. This role combines mechanical design expertise with component engineering and PLM management, ensuring components meet performance, reliability, and compliance requirements. You will work closely with hardware design engineers, supply chain, and NPI teams to support both new product development and sustaining activities.
What You’ll Do:
-Partner with design and supply chain teams to identify, qualify, and source electro-mechanical components for NPI and sustaining products.
-Perform component research and recommend alternatives to mitigate risk, reduce cost, and ensure supply continuity.
-Manage component lifecycle in PLM systems (Agile/Propel), including BOM creation, ECOs, PCNs, and documentation accuracy.
-Review and interpret datasheets, mechanical drawings, and specifications for connectors, sheet metal, and thermal components.
-Address thermal management challenges (heat sinks, airflow) and ensure dimensional accuracy for manufacturability.
-Understand connector technology fundamentals (plating, coating, signal integrity) and their application in data networking.
-Ensure compliance with RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals, EMI/EMC, and other regulatory requirements.
-Collaborate with suppliers to evaluate new technologies and maintain visibility into their roadmaps.
-Support 50% sustaining / 50% NPI activities:
Sustaining: Qualify alternates, resolve quality issues, and de-risk BOMs.
NPI: Qualify new parts and suppliers, ensure requirements alignment, and support design teams.
PR: $75-$85/hr
