Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College is searching for a part-time Research Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing research support for a funded project on developing foundation models for anomaly detection, with a focus on scaling model training while improving generalization to real-world tasks, including but not limited to designing faster prior sampling strategies, efficient architectures, and context optimization and distillation.
Core responsibilities include:
+ Collect and analyze data, and assist with the preparation of research reports
+ Collaborate with the research team to develop research methodologies and design experiments
+ Assist with the management of research projects, including coordinating meetings, maintaining project schedules, and ensuring timely completion of deliverables
+ Perform statistical analysis and data visualization using relevant software and tools
+ Participate in research presentations and conferences to share findings and insights

+ Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze complex data sets and identify trends and patterns
+ Well-organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize efficiently.
Qualifications:
+ High school diploma/GED; or a combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
+ Proven experience conducting research and working with research methodologies
+ Proficiency in statistical analysis software (Stata) and knowledge of R analytics and large data processing
+ Familiarity with academic research ethics and protocols

+ **Typical Work Schedule:** This is a part-time, approximately 20 hours per week, non-exempt position
+ **Fixed Term:** This is a fixed term position with an estimated duration of six months.
+ **Work Posture:** This position is operating on an on-campus/in-office presence.
