Position Summary

The Senior Project Accountant is responsible for coordinating all phases of the construction job costing process including categorizing, recording, analyzing and monitoring costs and billings associated with a large construction project as well as several smaller less complex projects. This position also assures vendor compliance in order to manage project risk. This role is assigned to a large construction project, working closely with the Project Manager to assure timely and accurate accounting and risk management throughout the project life cycle.

Position Details

+ Compiles, prepares and analyzes monthly project billings per contract requirements for more complex accounts.

+ Monitors budgets and commitments, processing subcontractor and vendor invoices, preparing drafts of owner invoices, and resolving issues.

+ Partners with the project manager and other team members to monitor overall job financial status.

+ Collaborates by preparing for and attending progress and division meetings.

+ Prepares monthly reports with current estimates and identifies risks or opportunities.

+ Prepares special analyses as required.

+ Serves as mentor and provides training to or supervise less-experienced Project Accountants.

Qualifications

+ Excellent accounting knowledge

+ Excellent organization skills with high level of attention to detail

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to transfer knowledge to junior level staff

+ Excellent ability to meet tight deadlines and work under pressure

+ Excellent to analyze and resolve difficult issues

+ Excellent ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion

+ Excellent computer proficiency and technical aptitude with intermediate to expert level ability to utilize MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, etc. required

+ Ability to remain flexible in a rapidly changing environment

+ Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent preferred

+ 5+ years of Project Accounting experience preferred

+ Experience in construction preferred
