Job Description
MAIN FUNCTION:
The following description covers the most significant duties performed, but does not exclude occasional work assignments not mentioned. Under the direct supervision of Director of Facility Engineering, the General Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining the building, grounds and physical plant to ensure a safe, efficient environment to serve the needs of the patients, visitors and employees. The General Maintenance Mechanic performs maintenance tasks deemed necessary to the smooth operation of the Arnot Health and relevant to the employees’ experience and competency. This includes, but not limited to: moves, deliveries, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painter, sheetmetal, welder. Provides assistance to a higher classification as needed to gain experience and increase competency in all skills. Entry into this position requires skill and competency level testing.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
** 1. Works across trades as required to complete assigned tasks, and to meet the Arnot Health and departmental goals.
** 2. Performs day-to-day routine repairs and preventative maintenance relevant to the employees experience and competency on all Arnot Health equipment including but not limited to: vehicles, bed, laundry equipment, furniture, carts, chairs, air handlers, fans, pumps, lights, walls, ceilings, sinks, urinals, toilets, etc., which may include electrical repair or troubleshooting.
** 3. Where an area manager, department head, etc. have requested work, is responsible for advising that person of the status of the job if work becomes interrupted, delayed, or otherwise problematic and informs the manager when work is completed.
** 4. Is responsible for installation and repair of Arnot Health systems within various specialty fields, relevant to the employees’ experience and competency, as necessary such as: electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and general structure components, e.g. walls, roofs, ceilings, and floors.
** 5. Is responsible for maintaining equipment in good condition, including vehicles, all hand tools and some power tools, ladders, instrumentations, and scaffolding.
** 6. Is responsible for work areas to be left in a clean and safe condition. Tools and equipment must be secure in the proper area at the end of the work shift.
** 7. Trains in the operations, adjustments, repairs, and recording the performance and operation of all machinery and auxiliary equipment in the power plant and mechanical rooms throughout the Arnot Health buildings.
** 8. Demonstrates initiative to respond to conditions which may have lead to an event of an emergency nature and calls supervisor when necessary.
** 9. Prepares areas for painting as required by the department director or designee. Does painting and preparation.
10. Adheres to all policies and procedures relevant to the job, the department, and external regulatory bodies, or obtains approval for exception.
11. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by the position.
12. Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer’s needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduate or equivalent. Passes MECH Entry level test.
EXPERIENCE:
Some maintenance experience preferred.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:
No CPR required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to lift, push and pull and average of fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to sit, stand or kneel for extended periods and work outdoors in all weather.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category III. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. And category I tasks are not a condition of employment.
