Description

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
The processing lead technician will work as a part of and lead a team through satellite arrival, offload, and electrical testing operations. The candidate’s responsibilities include forklift, pallet jack, and crane operations; work with electrical harnessing and test racks to verify satellite health upon arrival at the launch site; and provide coaching to team members related to the work zone processes. Additionally, the processing lead technician will validate test data to confirm compliance with requirements. The individual will work closely with engineering and other launch operations and satellite manufacturing teams. This role is for 2nd shift but upon hiring/onboarding, the candidate will work 1st shift to train and onboard before transition to 2nd shift.
The ideal candidate is comfortable in a highly technical, fast-paced, and collaborative setting; is able to follow technical work instructions; and lead a team through processing operations.
Key job responsibilities
• Adhere to safety requirements, standards and procedures in all work locations.
• Launch operations consist of satellite processing, receiving, and testing of the Kuiper satellites using various ground systems in a clean-room and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) controlled environment.
• Verify satellite health using computer-controlled equipment to command and monitor satellite telemetry.
• Assign daily tasks to team members and execute assigned work to meet production schedules.
• Use precision calibrated tools – torque wrenches, multi-meters, micrometers and calipers.
• Track and be responsible for the calibrated tools and their calibration/maintenance cycles.
• Perform overhead crane lift operations and use pallet jacks and forklifts for hardware movement.
• Perform work according to engineering drawings and technical work instructions.
• Check and inspect work after completion to ensure engineering and quality standards are met per the drawing and work instruction requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers to develop and document activities, including continuous improvement opportunities.
• Perform other duties, as assigned, to ensure an efficient, safe and effective work environment.
• Able to obtain and maintain licenses, and/or certifications as required by job responsibilities (i.e. forklift, crane, electrical).
• Mentor new and junior team members.
• Willing to work overtime and weekends as required.
• Shift schedule is nominally 5 days/week, 8 hours/day but may vary depending on production/launch schedules.
• Must be willing and able to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, either domestically or internationally as business needs demand.
A day in the life
The processing lead will meet with their engineer/leader to understand objectives for the day and will distributed work to their team. They will work on the operations floor to process satellites according to direction and work instructions provided by engineering using mechanical and electrical ground support equipment. They will document completed work and report non-conformances to engineering as they occur. The lead will also be responsible for working with engineers to get non-conformances resolved. Periodically, they will perform maintenance on the ground and facility systems supporting satellite movements. They will be expected to cross train with all other launch operations work areas when available. The lead is expected to support work surges and travel to other launch sites or Kuiper facilities.

Basic Qualifications
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of experience in spaceflight hardware testing and assembly.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• 4+ years of experience as a team or task lead.
• Experience working with electrically energized systems.
• Experience in a fast-paced processing environment .
• Experience working with Foreign Object Debris (FOD), ESD sensitive hardware, and in a clean room.
• 4 + years of experience with forklifts, cranes, rigging, and heavy equipment (including previous certifications).
• A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding technical drawings, work instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Able to obtain and maintain a US Passport & must meet customs entry requirements to include but not limited to: Yellow Fever vaccine and other immunization requirements as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
• Ability to pass Kennedy Space Center background check.
• Able to stand/walk for long periods of time.
• Able to climb ladders, work in tight spaces, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position.
• Able to lift at least 25 lbs. unassisted.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and mentoring junior technicians.
• Experience communicating shift handoffs.
• Experience with propellant loading/fueling operations or handling COPV hardware.
• Experience working at domestic foreign countries for launch operations.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $63,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $104,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
