A mission-driven organization is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to lead its accounting, financial reporting, and compliance functions. This role is critical to maintaining the integrity of financial systems, supporting audits, managing internal controls, and providing strategic financial leadership. The individual will work closely with senior leadership, program managers, auditors, and external partners to ensure responsible financial stewardship and support the organization’s long-term goals.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
+ Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP for non-profit organizations.
+ Monitor cash flow, develop forecasts, and ensure sufficient liquidity for operational needs.
+ Maintain comprehensive reporting for grants, contracts, and restricted/unrestricted funds.
+ Develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and models to support strategic initiatives.
+ Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including IRS and charitable reporting requirements.
+ Lead the annual financial audit process and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors.
+ Oversee grant and contract compliance, including documentation of allowable costs and reporting requirements.
+ Maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.
+ Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering professional development and performance excellence.
+ Partner with leadership to provide financial insights that inform strategic planning and decision-making.
+ Support presentations to the Board of Directors, Finance Committee, and other stakeholders.
+ Collaborate with development and fundraising teams to provide financial data for grant proposals, donor reporting, and funding renewals.
+ Manage financial systems and software, ensuring optimal use and functionality.
+ Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes for efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
+ Implement best practices in non-profit accounting, reporting, and financial management.
Essential Skills
+ Proven experience in accounting and finance within non-profit organizations.
+ Strong knowledge of fund accounting and grant compliance.
+ Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including macros, if/then statements, pivot tables, and VLOOKUP.
+ Experience with QuickBooks and Sage.
+ Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA candidate preferred.
+ Strong knowledge of GAAP, OMB Uniform Guidance, and IRS regulations for tax-exempt organizations.
+ Experience managing a team.
+ Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
+ 7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
+ 3+ years in a leadership/management role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with IRS 403B retirement plans.
+ Strong Microsoft Office and ERP experience.
+ Detail-oriented, organized, communicative, and analytical.
+ Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
+ Collaborative and able to work effectively with various teams.
Work Environment
This role requires on-site work from Monday to Friday, with flexibility for additional hours during peak periods such as month-end, quarter-end, and year-end. The organization is committed to making a real positive change in the lives of children and families, particularly in Broward County. This position offers the potential to evolve into a Chief Financial Officer role with time and experience.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Pompano Beach, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $130000.00 - $150000.00/yr.
Full benefits including Paid Holidays, PTO, Health, Dental, Vision, FSA/HSA, paid Short term disability (after one year of service), legal assistance, etc.
