Job Title: Microbiology QA Tech
Type: Contract to Hire
Compensation: $22 - $26 hourly
Overview:
We are seeking an outstanding 3rd-shift QA Technician to join a leading food manufacturing operation. This role supports overnight production lines by performing routine QA checks, verifying compliance, and ensuring all food safety standards are met throughout the shift. The position requires strong attention to detail, experience in food or dairy manufacturing environments, and the ability to work independently on overnight operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Line Quality & Compliance
+ Perform start-of-shift line checks and verify functionality of QA-critical equipment including metal detectors, X-ray units, and checkweighers
+ Conduct routine QA audits throughout the production run, including net weights, moisture/salt percentages, blend formulas, labeling accuracy, closures, and packaging compliance
+ Review, record, and escalate non-conforming results
+ Validate product specifications, codes, and customer/Material Order requirements
+ Support overnight corrective actions and ensure quality issues are addressed immediately
Microbiological & Analytical Testing (As Needed on 3rd Shift)
+ Conduct basic microbiological testing aligned with overnight workflows (APC, yeast/mold, environmental swabs)
+ Perform pH checks, salt/moisture analysis, gas level verification, and equipment calibration
+ Maintain incubators and lab instruments used in overnight testing
Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance
+ Follow all GMP, HACCP, and FDA food safety guidelines
+ Document deviations, incidents, and non-conformances occurring during the shift
+ Place materials/product on hold when needed and notify management
+ Halt production activities if unsafe or non-compliant conditions are identified
Equipment & Documentation
+ Calibrate pH meters, salt meters, moisture analyzers, gas meters, and supporting QA tools
+ Maintain QA logs, testing records, and equipment calibration documentation
+ Support basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance during overnight hours
Qualifications:
+ Minimum of 1–3 years of QA, QC, or food manufacturing experience (dairy/cheese experience preferred)
+ Strong understanding of GMP, HACCP, and food safety principles
+ Ability to work independently on overnight operations
+ Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
+ Comfortable working in both production and lab settings
