Description of Work Unit
The Department of Psychology is in CSU’s College of Natural Sciences along with seven other departments: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Statistics. The Department serves approximately 1400 undergraduate majors and 100 graduate students, with approximately 30 full-time faculty members distributed across five doctoral programs: (1) Applied Social and Health Psychology, (2) Cognitive Neuroscience, (3) Cognitive Psychology, (4) Counseling Psychology, and (5) Industrial/Organizational Psychology. The Department also offers two Master’s degrees: (1) Master’s in Addiction Counseling and (2) Master’s in Applied Industrial/Organizational Psychology, which is an online degree. The Department houses several service centers including the Psychological Services Center, supporting graduate training objectives in counseling psychology while serving the CSU population’s mental health needs; the Center for Meaning and Purpose, which focuses on acquiring, creating, and disseminating knowledge about enabling meaning, well-being, and positive health; and the Aging Clinic of the Rockies, which focuses on research, clinical services, and outreach for older adults in the community.
The Department proudly boasts the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research that concentrates on social problems that affect rural areas. Additionally, the department has an externally funded occupational health psychology training program, funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health ( NIOSH ) Education and Research Center which provides financial resources to support graduate student education, research, and professional development.
The Department is primarily housed in the Behavioral Sciences Building, a building that was completed in 2010 and was designed to meet LEED Gold Certification standards for environmental quality, innovative design, sustainability, and efficiency. The Behavioral Sciences Building includes office space for all full-time faculty and graduate students, meeting and seminar rooms, state-of-the-art classrooms, numerous lounge and study areas, and a wi-fi café. Also included are faculty research laboratories in cognitive psychology, neuroscience, and sensation and perception that have been designed to specification. Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of IT in CNS , the Psychology Assistant IT Coordinator is responsible for: new technology setup (including: researching best fit technology to department research, adhering to University standards for technology, setup of technology and deployment), database design and maintenance, web development for research and operations, computer maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of computers, and installation of programs necessary for operation.
The Psychology Assistant IT Coordinator will work independently or under the direction of the Psychology IT Coordinator to establish a working environment suitable to the department’s needs. Including communication between end users and IT staff, as well as first rate customer service.
This position relies on a balanced technological skill set including technical capability (analysis, troubleshooting and repairing) and functional capability (tech support, documentation, and training when necessary). Experience with database design, web development and customer service are critical to the success of this position.
This position will develop policies and standard operating procedures for the College of Natural Sciences as it pertains to areas covered by the Cybersecurity alignment. It is responsible for the management of documentation of college-wide IT procedures and Financial Operations guidance.
The successful candidate for this position possesses a keen attention to detail, brings strong problem solving skills, and enjoys providing quality customer service to their clients. This IT position is best for someone who enjoys working with a team to support highly complex departmental information technology systems. The selected candidate is one who will be comfortable working in high stress situations, is forward thinking and a person who is able to communicate with others who might not understand technical terms. This excellent communicator will be able to easily translate the needs of the departments into elegant, useful technology services with a passion for creating efficient and excellent user experiences.
This is a full-time temporary position with a designated end date of June 30, 2026, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and availability of funds.
Required Job Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
+ Minimum of three years of professional experience with SQL Server databases, Oracle database, complex SQL statements and stored procedures.
+ Minimum of one year of professional experience in designing and implementing complex computer systems
+ Knowledge of advanced security principles and services in alignment with cybersecurity including Microsoft Defender for Vulnerability Management, MFA , HIPAA compliance, FERPA compliance
+ Experience with customer service and excellent communication skills
Preferred Job Qualifications
+ Experience with Windows, Linux and Mac computer/server set up, troubleshooting and repair
+ FinOps Practitioner certification
+ Experience with installation of programs necessary for departmental operations, license renewal, and maintenance of programs
+ Experience with Qualtrics, PsychoPy and E-Prime for support of research initiatives in Psychology
+ Experience with data analysis programs such as SPSS , SAS , R, R studio
+ Experience with sophisticated psychology technology equipment including EEG systems, fNIRS systems and Biopac systems
+ Knowledge in Apache2, Python, Shell Scripting, HTML , Certbot, InCommon Certificates, Shibboleth and PHP
+ Evidence of personal initiative and ability to independently pursue solutions as needs are identified
+ Ability to move/lift 50lbs

+ This category requires design of technical solutions for Psychology research initiatives and departmental functions including the creation of web-based resources, the support of specialized Psychology technology and equipment not limited to EEG , fNIRS and BIOPAC systems and their associated hardware and software.
+ Design and implement services within department confines of Apache, Shibboleth, PHP and Python while adhering to FERPA requirements.
+ Design and implement systems and services in compliance with HIPAA requirements.
+ In a shifting environment, this category will also encompass technology and service changes to system wide processes to adhere to University standards.
+ Duties will include responsibility to drive forward thinking solutions for department users success in their teaching and research initiatives.
