    About this Job

     

    This is a full-time position located at the State Library in Baton Rouge, LA.

     

    This position is responsible for the planning, development, funding, and implementation of the structure, programs, and services of the Louisiana Center for the Book (the Center). The mission of the Louisiana Center is to bring public focus to the value of books, reading, literacy, libraries, and culture, and to foster an appreciation of Louisiana literature, authors, and publishers. It is one of 54 state centers affiliated with the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. State Centers are responsible for developing and implementing activities appropriate to their own state.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years of experience in administrative services; OR

    Six years of full-time experience in any field plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR

    A bachelor’s degree plus three years of experience in administrative services; OR

     

    An advanced degree or a Juris Doctorate plus two years of experience in administrative services.

    EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

    Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    Job Duties:

    + Coordinates activities of the Louisiana Center for the Book.

    + Develops and executes program ideas designed to promote the value of books and reading, setting programmatic and operational goals for the program in consultation with the State Librarian and others as appropriate, including outside advisory groups.

    + Directs and implements the annual Louisiana Book Festival and LA Writer Award.

    + Plans, programs, and solicits presentations from authors, in conjunction with state librarian and staff input, determines panels and solo presentations, resulting in 100+ programs, 250+ authors, and more than 15 venues, including State Capitol, State Library of Louisiana, and Capitol Park Museum.

    + Manages and develops partnerships, affiliations, and communications of the Louisiana Center for the Book.

    + Works with organizations in other states and with national organizations such as the Library of Congress, the American Library Association, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts to plan and implement programs.

    + Coordinates all required activities and reporting to maintain the Louisiana Center for the Book affiliation with the Library of Congress (LOC) Center for the Book.

    + Performs other duties as required.

    Position-Specific Details:

    Appointment Type: This is a probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.

     

    Compensation: Depends on the selected applicant.

     

    Work Schedule: This is a full-time position that reports in-office at the State Library.
