    The Associate Director of Development is a frontline fundraiser responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. The Associate Director will identify, engage, and solicit donors at all life stages, including prospect research, development of effective solicitation strategies and stewardship of donors throughout the major giving process. The Associate Director will be responsible for identifying and cultivating relationships with prospective major and planned giving donors. The Associate Director will typically maintain a donor portfolio with a focus on gifts of $100,000 or above. This role may require frequent travel and meetings on and off campus during regular and non-traditional business hours and is expected to operate with high levels of autonomy. This position will be focused on a designated territory within the continental United States.

     

    The Krieger School of Arts and Sciences (KSAS) seeks a major gift officer to join our team in achieving our annual, major, and planned giving program objectives. The Associate Director of Development is an integral member of the School’s External Affairs team in our effort to secure philanthropic support for the Krieger School to pursue its mission of education, research, and discovery. Our team is dedicated to connecting the passions of our donors to the needs of the school to realize our mission

    Key responsibilities:

    + Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a prospect pool for new and existing annual and major gifts.

    + Design and implement development strategies to build a portfolio, involving relevant colleagues where necessary.

    + Determine annual work plan goals in consultation with departmental/divisional development leadership.

    + Track fundraising activity in the CRM.

    + Plan and execute solicitation strategies leading to annual and major gifts.

    + Prepare proposals, solicitation letters, gift agreements, and other development materials for prospects and donors that articulate Johns Hopkins University’s needs, values, and ambitions.

    + Develop and maintain comprehensive understanding of department or division mission, history, teaching, research, and/or clinical programs to effectively communicate funding opportunities. Learn and actively refresh knowledge of school/divisional/departmental collaborative partnerships, priorities, and shared goals.

    + Proactively communicate with major prospects and donors about specific ways to give, both current and deferred, to maximize gift and tax benefits.

    + Complete in-person and virtual donor visits each fiscal year. Goals for visits and other KPIs will be set by school/division/business unit leadership.

    + Develop and participate in implementing annual stewardship plans for donors.

    + Develop and maintain strong, trust-based partnerships with colleagues across the institution.

    + Work with faculty and institutional leaders to engage them as fundraising partners in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting prospective donors. Staff, train, and successfully guide internal stakeholders through the development process.

    + Partner with team members on the planning and executions of development related activities for the department including professorship dedications, lectureships, and other stewardship events.

    + Participate and engage in team-wide activities, meetings, events, and knowledge-sharing.

    + Represent school/division on committees and at institution-wide programming where appropriate.

    + Analyze data at a high level, identify prospects, demonstrate activity, and track progress toward work plan goals.

    + Participate in special projects, programs, initiatives as assigned.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    In addition to the duties described above, the Associate Director of Development will:

    + Develop annual fundraising goals and objectives in consultation with KSAS leadership; create a development plan to research and identify new prospects, make discovery calls, and build a prospect pool based on new prospects and past donors.

    + Build and manage a portfolio of 100-150 prospects with the capacity to make major and/or planned gifts.

    + Plan and execute solicitation strategies leading to leadership annual and major gifts. Travel extensively throughout the assigned territory to pursue these strategies and build enduring relationships, completing at least 110 visits per year.

    + Partner with the KSAS constituent engagement team to ensure event attendance in assigned territory, as well as recruit and support key volunteers who could assist in the School’s advancement efforts (i.e., mentoring, panel presentation, lectures, etc.). Attend events when needed.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree.

    + Three years of related experience, with one year of professional experience.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Advanced degree (Master's or JD).

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

    Starting Salary Range: Minimum: $62,899 - Maximum: $110,100 (targeted salary: $82,000; commensurate with experience)

    This salary range does not include all components of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences compensation program. This position may be eligible for a discretionary bonus.
