    Job Summary:The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Intern position will provide cross-functional assistance to both PowerSecure’s Environmental and Safety Departments, addressing seasonal workload increases and contributing to key projects. PowerSecure operates in a highly regulated energy sector across the U.S., where environmental stewardship and employee safety are paramount to our mission of delivering reliable, resilient energy solutions while minimizing risks and environmental impact. The intern will report to Sr. Manager, Environmental Permitting and Compliance; however, their time will be divided into approximately 75% Environmental/25% Safety, with flexibility based on project priorities. The internship is planned for summer 2026 (approximately May to August), with a duration of 10-12 weeks, and will be based at our DI/PSS location in Durham, NC.

     

    Minimum Qualifications: (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills):• Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.• College undergraduate (Junior or Senior) • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel for data analysis).• Interest in the energy sector, with basic knowledge of regulations like OSHA and EPA preferred.• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.• Availability for full-time hours during the summer period.• No prior professional experience is required, but relevant coursework or extracurricular activities (e.g., safety certifications or environmental clubs) will be advantageous.

     

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:• Assist in tracking and organizing EHS permits and compliance documentation.• Support the development, revision, and distribution of EHS SOPs (e.g., spill response, used oil, batteries, aerosol cans). • Validate and input data into compliance systems such as Intelex and EMIS. • Help prepare materials for EHS regulatory inspections, including SPCC plans and Tier II reports. • Coordinate and monitor safety training programs (e.g., OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR). • Participate in field safety audits and assist with documentation and follow-up actions. • Enter and analyze incident data to support safety reporting and trend identification. • Contribute to the creation of EHS communications and awareness materials. • Collaborate with team members across both departments to support ongoing projects and initiatives. • Attend team meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks and learning progress.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:• Completed college coursework in EPA and/or OSHA regulations, environmental compliance and/or safety principles• Ability to work on many projects at once while maintaining productivity• Must be proficient in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software programs• Excellent verbal and written communication skills required• Strong organizational and time-management skills needed
