OGS Machining is a CNC Job Shop that is currently looking for a full-time CNC Lathe Setup position for 1st Shift. Standard shop hours are (4) ten-hour days - Mon-Thurs. 6:00am - 4:30 pm, with occasional overtime on Fridays as needed.
OGS Machining is a medium-volume, production job shop whose average machining order is 100 - 500 pcs. 75% of our jobs are made from bar stock with the remaining 25% are machining castings or billet. All parts can easily be held in your hand, no cranes or material handling equipment are necessary. The majority of our CNC turning equipment is less than 4 years old, and state-of-the-art. We are actively growing and acquiring new customers and new work - our goal is to more than triple our sales and capacity within a decade.
Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated self-starter Senior CNC Machinist with strong background in multi-axis CNC (Vertical & Horizontal) Milling and Turning to support our fast-paced aerospace contract manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate must have 10+ years of hands-on experience with demonstrated history of setting up and operating complex CNC machines with Fanuc or similar controls, including creating, editing, and optimizing programs on the shop floor.
This role is responsible for end-to-end part ownership: from setup and tooling, through first-piece prove-out, in-process inspection, and final verification to meet tight aerospace tolerances and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
CNC Setup & Operation
+ Set up and operate multi-axis CNC milling and CNC lathes (including live tooling / sub-spindles as applicable) using Fanuc and Similar controls.
+ Interpret and apply setup sheets, tooling lists, and work instructions to efficiently stage jobs.
+ Load and secure workholding (vises, chucks, fixtures, soft jaws) and verify proper alignment and clamping.
+ Select, load, and preset cutting tools; verify tool offsets, work offsets, and coordinate systems.
+ Perform dry runs, single-block prove-outs, and first-piece inspections to validate setups before production.
+ Ability to aid engineering with Program and Process Optimization
Programming & Editing
+ Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs at the control (Fanuc) and/or offline based on engineering models and blueprints.
+ Adjust feeds, speeds, toolpaths, and canned cycles to improve quality, cycle time, and tool life while maintaining process stability.
+ Debug and resolve program issues such as tool interference, gouging, and dimensional inaccuracies.
+ Collaborate with engineering/programming teams to feedback improvements, correct errors, and standardize best practices.
Tooling & Process Optimization
+ Demonstrate strong understanding of tool selection (end mills, drills, inserts, boring bars, reamers, etc.) for a variety of aerospace alloys (aluminum, stainless steels, high-temp alloys, titanium, etc.).
+ Recommend and implement tooling strategies to reduce cycle times, improve surface finish, and increase tool life.
+ Monitor tool wear and breakage; adjust offsets and replace tooling as needed to maintain part quality.
+ Assist in developing and refining standard setups, tooling kits, and fixtures for repeat jobs.
Inspection & Quality (GD&T)
+ Read and interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and GD&T callouts with a strong understanding of feature control frames, datums, and tolerance zones.
+ Perform in-process inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gages, bore gages, pin gages, indicators, comparator, and other precision measuring equipment.
+ Verify part conformance to print and process documentation; accurately record inspection results and complete required quality paperwork.
+ Experience with CPk and SPC requirements.
+ Work with QC/QA personnel to resolve nonconformances, support root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
+ Support first article inspections (FAI) per customer / AS9102 requirements as needed.
Safety, Housekeeping & Teamwork
+ Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and proper handling of coolants, lubricants, and sharp tools.
+ Maintain a clean, organized work area and machine, including chip control and daily preventive checks.
+ Train and mentor junior machinists and operators on setups, best practices, and safe operating procedures.
+ Communicate clearly with supervisors, planners, and quality team regarding job status, issues, and improvement ideas.
Required Qualifications
+ 10+ years of progressive experience as a CNC machinist, with strong emphasis on multi-axis milling and turning in a tight-tolerance environment.
+ Extensive experience with Fanuc controls (setup, program loading, editing, offsets, tool management).
+ Demonstrated ability to create and edit CNC programs at the machine (Fanuc conversational/G-code) and/or from posted code.
+ Strong knowledge of tool selection, feeds/speeds, and cutting strategies for a variety of aerospace materials.
+ Proven inspection skills with solid understanding and practical application of GD&T.
+ Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, work instructions, and process documents.
+ Experience working to tight tolerances (e.g., ±0.0005" and below) and maintaining consistent process capability.
+ Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-to-medium volume contract manufacturing environment.
+ Basic computer skills for accessing job travelers, drawings, and quality documentation.
+ Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience in aerospace manufacturing, including familiarity with AS9100 or similar quality systems.
+ Previous involvement with FAI (First Article Inspection) and aerospace customer documentation.
+ Experience using CMMs or advanced inspection equipment (optical comparators, vision systems, etc.).
+ Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (Part-Maker, Fusion, GibbsCAM,) is a plus.
+ Experience with lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement initiatives.
+ Self-Starter, highly motivated, with a strong can-do winning attitude.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
+ Ability to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
+ Ability to work around machine tools, coolants, and moderate noise levels with appropriate PPE.
+ Willingness to work overtime and/or off-shift hours as required to meet customer delivery commitments.
What We Offer
+ Competitive pay commensurate with experience.
+ Opportunities for overtime and advancement.
+ A stable, growth-oriented aerospace contract manufacturing environment with a focus on quality and on-time delivery.
+ Comprehensive benefits package: medical, dental, vision, 401(k), Vacation & PTO
