    Job Summary

    Financial staff strive to be consistent partners within the University of Michigan Library (https://www.lib.umich.edu/) in Ann Arbor by delivering timely and adequate financial support to each division and across the library. The Budget Analyst Intermediate will support the economic and business functions for thePublishing division (https://www.lib.umich.edu/about-us/our-divisions-and-departments/michigan-publishing) . As a member of the Publishing division, they will provide financial analysis, reconciliations, policy interpretation, royalty processing, procurement, and financial reporting. The Budget Analyst will also be experienced in the conventions and practices of revenue accounting. The work requires a willingness to learn about the publishing industry to serve the business intelligence and accounting needs of both internal and external clients.

     

    The Budget Analyst works closely with the Director of Business and Administration, Library Finance colleagues, and other University financial areas.

    What You'll Do

    + Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for internal and external clients.

    + Assist in the preparation and monitoring of various budgets.

    + Coordinate or prepare the monthly journal entries to record revenue and related expenses.

    + Work with third-party vendor sales for ebooks, international distribution, subscription, and collections.

    + Coordinate billing, recharge, and rebill activities; track production costs.

    + Reconcile the balance sheet and income statement budget lines related to accounts receivable, subventions, exhibits, sales, and royalties.

    + Coordinate the royalty cycle, including reconciling the semi-annual royalty cycle and payment process. Prepare upload files, issue statements and coordinate permission and right income payments.

    + Provide training and development to newly assigned or less experienced finance staff and assist non-finance staff in working within the library budget model.

    + Create and/or maintain complex spreadsheets and standard operating procedures, and coordinate maintenance of all business office backups.

    Skills You Have

    + Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.

    + 2+ years of demonstrated experience as an accountant or financial analyst with a thorough understanding of accounting and financial principles.

    + 2+ years of demonstrated experience in working with reporting software and databases, with an understanding of database reporting, structure, and data management.

    + 2+ years of demonstrated experience in financial analysis and reporting within established timelines, with the ability to present financial data in understandable terms.

    + 2+ years of demonstrated experience carrying out complex budget and general ledger activities, including reconciliation auditing, budget formulation, monitoring, and presentation of budgets.

    + 2+ years of demonstrated experience of strong written and verbal communication, responding to different types of questions and situations.

    + 2+ years of demonstrated aptitude for accuracy, attention to detail, and managing time effectively.

    Work Schedule

     

    The expected schedule for this position is from 8am-5pm ET, Monday-Friday. This work schedule may be modified based on operational needs.
