Location Description
Michael Foods, Inc's. Norfolk, Nebraska location is northwest of Omaha. The area is known for their manufacturing, farming (both livestock and grain), education, retailing, and wholesaling. Well-known as the home of Johnny Carson. Our location produces powdered and dehydrated meat and poultry products, for use in products such as seasonings, soups, and instant meals.
Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY** **:
The Packer position is responsible for assembling boxes, properly packaging, weighing, sealing, labeling, and stacking finished product boxes on to pallets; completing paperwork and maintaining records, and providing overall cleanliness and sanitation of dryer areas. This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. Ensure that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **:
+ Assemble bundles of flat boxes; determine number of bundles to be moved based of production
+ Label boxes with product information
+ Package finished product into appropriate boxes
+ Accurately weigh boxes on electronic scales
+ Seal and label completed boxes then stack them on to pallets
+ Pull frequent lab samples as requested for product testing
+ Clean & sanitize dryer/packing equipment after use
+ Complete paperwork and maintain records; understand required documentation for the production run and verify documents with supervisor each shift
+ Demonstrate safety as a top priority; follow all safety procedures and avoid all accidents; actively determine ways to improve safety; monitor equipment to ensure proper function; maintain and operate all equipment in a safe manner to avoid injury to self or others
+ Minimize product loss
+ Keep work area neat, clean, and sanitary
+ Report all work-related injuries or unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately
+ Use appropriate safety equipment when required (ear plugs, rubber boots, safety glasses, face shields, aprons, bump caps, etc.) Use lockout/tagout procedures when required
+ Maintain good personal hygiene
+ Maintain a positive attitude
+ Assume personal responsibility to insure safe and healthy workplace for everyone. Adhere to all safety policies and procedures and, incorporate safety and health in all jobs and tasks
+ Adhere to Quality work practices, follows GMP’s, maintains sanitary conditions and ensures that product quality is maintained. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality
+ Ensure regulatory compliance at all times; follow instructions from supervisor, cooperate with coworkers and other departments; be willing to fill in where needed
+ Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
**Work Experience:** Up to one-month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
**Language Skills:** Ability to read, speak, write, and comprehend simple English instructions; recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
**Mathematical Skills:** Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
**Computer Skills:** Some basic computer skills with Microsoft Office and Google
**Reasoning Ability:** Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form; adapt to constant changes in the workplace
**Physical Demands:** While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception
**Work Environment:** While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment may be loud and require hearing protection. Special care must be taken when working with or around microbes and chemicals. Safety material are provided and Personal Protective Equipment should be worn where applicable (lab and production floor). Must be able to work in 80 to 100-degree temperatures
**Other Skills and Abilities:** Must have good people skills with an ability to listen, understand, collaborate, communicate, and assure complete information. Teamwork is essential
The pay range for this position is $18.25 to $20.00 per hour.
