Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.

**Schedule:** 7:00 PM–7:30 AM (36 hours per week)
**Rotation:** Weekends and holidays required

Summary
Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs a variety of technical tasks and bedside care activities to support high-quality patient care. Responsibilities include direct patient care—hygiene, skin care, mobility support, and monitoring—as well as multi-skilled tasks such as phlebotomy and EKGs. The PCT assists with equipment management, procedures, and other duties as assigned to ensure smooth and safe unit operations.
Key Responsibilities
1) Provide age-appropriate patient care
Applies knowledge of developmental stages and uses appropriate approaches when caring for patients across the lifespan.
2) Monitor basic physiological parameters
Obtains and documents vital signs, weights, heights, and other measurements accurately and within required timeframes. Reports significant deviations promptly and documents changes in patient drainage or condition.
3) Perform treatments and procedures according to policy
Completes dressings, post-mortem care, and all delegated procedures per Baystate Health policies. Assists physicians with exams and simple procedures. Ensures proper patient identification before performing any procedure.
4) Assist with elimination needs
Responds promptly to patient requests, accurately labels and sends specimens, measures intake/output, and administers enemas or Harris Drips as ordered.
5) Perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing
Conducts POC testing accurately and per established guidelines.
6) Support delivery of ancillary services
Follows treatment plans, monitors patient responses, communicates concerns to appropriate staff, and documents care consistently.
7) Communicate effectively
Interacts respectfully with patients and families and communicates relevant information clearly to the care team while demonstrating cultural awareness.
8) Respond appropriately in emergencies
Initiates emergency procedures, maintains patient safety, and communicates effectively in urgent situations.
9) Function as a collaborative team member
Supports team members in clinical and non-clinical activities and contributes to a positive team environment.
10) Maintain required competencies
Completes required clinical competencies, including those associated with the career ladder recognition program.
11) Provide one-to-one observation when assigned
Performs continuous observation duties safely and competently based on unit needs.
Required Work Experience
+ Minimum of **one year of patient care experience** (long-term care, specialty care, acute care, or similar).
