    Job Summary and Qualifications

     

    Position Summary: The position of On-Call Chaplain supports the mission of Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center and Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children by providing compassionate and innovative care for patients and their families through our commitment to excellence, collaboration, education, and integrity. The On-Call Chaplain works in collaboration with the Manager of the Department of Spiritual Care as well as with other Chaplains, physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers in order to meet the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient, family members and hospital staff. He/she documents all spiritual care visits and when necessary makes referrals to other hospital staff when appropriate. The On-Call Chaplain will have a strong sense of spiritual identity in order to function in all interdisciplinary settings by providing spiritual care in terms of the receiver’s spirituality and/or religious faith tradition. He/she will have an understanding of diverse theological perspectives and religious faith traditions, in order to meet the needs of people from a variety of backgrounds. The On-Call Chaplain will be accountable for the use of all statistical programs in order to provide quality data to the Department of Spiritual Care Manager. When need arises, the On-Call Chaplain will perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Spiritual Care Department. He/she will participate in and collaborate with all Chaplains during monthly departmental staff meetings.

    I. Position Requirements:

    A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Board certified or working toward board certification preferred, with one of the following organizations:

    a. Association of Professional Chaplains

    b. Spiritual Care Association

    c. National Association of Catholic Chaplains

    d. National Association of Jewish Chaplains

    B. Education: Master of Divinity degree or Master degree from an accredited seminary. Satisfactory completion of 1 or more units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education).

    C. Experience: 1 year of experience providing spiritual care in a hospital or hospice setting is preferred.

    D. Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.

    II. Degree of supervision required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Manager of Spiritual Care . Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
