Medical Assistant
Job Description
The Medical Assistant will perform essential medical assistant functions under the direction of the Medical Practice Manager. This role involves phlebotomy work, particularly with the geriatric population, and requires a minimum of one year of experience in this area. The position requires a high school diploma and a medical assistant certification or certification as a phlebotomist.
Responsibilities
+ Perform routine medical assistant functions consistently, adhering to policy and best practice standards, while respecting participants’ privacy and dignity.
+ Accurately document participants' vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight, in the electronic medical record (EMR).
+ Draw blood and collect specimens following Infection Control protocols as per medical doctor orders.
+ Process specimens for pick-up, ensuring correct identification and matching with request forms.
+ Centrifuge and refrigerate specimens according to policy and best practices.
+ Order laboratory tests based on physicians’ written orders and track test results.
+ Inform physicians in writing of any canceled lab tests.
+ Schedule Home Draw Labs and obtain relevant reports using software.
Essential Skills
+ 1+ year of phlebotomy experience, preferably with the geriatric population.
+ High School Diploma.
+ Certification as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist.
+ Fluency in English.
+ Experience in medical assisting, patient care, and phlebotomy.
+ Proficiency in using electronic health records and conducting insurance verification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Bilingual in Mandarin/Cantonese preferred.
+ Superior customer service skills with a friendly, outgoing, tactful, and courteous demeanor.
+ Strong interpersonal and people skills.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent interruptions and changes.
+ Self-directed with the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
+ Ability to concentrate on tasks lasting from 10-90 minutes.
+ Pleasant telephone manner and ability to establish rapport with participants and peers.
+ Willingness to work weekends if required.
Work Environment
The work environment is in an office/clinic setting, operating from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a standard 40-hour workweek. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
