    The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Idaho Bureau of Laboratories is seeking to fill a full-time permanent position forLaboratory TechnicianinBoise. We are seeking a candidate who excels in a fast-paced team environment and can balance a workload while coordinating multiple priorities. This position requires excellent customer service skills and attention to detail. The incumbent will serve as the first point of contact for laboratory clients. This position ensures that all submissions meet laboratory requirements. This will involve communicating with hospitals and other submitters to obtain missing or verify discordant sample information. This position will routinely handle specimens in a biosafety cabinet, wear appropriate personal protective equipment, adhere to safe laboratory practices, and accurately enter sample information into a Laboratory Information Management System. Responsibilities also include receiving of laboratory supplies, delivery of specimens to appropriate programs within the laboratory, performing daily temperature and calibration checks on various lab devices, and peer-review of submission form data to ensure no transcription errors are made. The role also supports testing staff by preparing microbiology media as requested. This position works closely as a team with another laboratory technician in a dynamic workflow environment.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

    + Receives and accessions specimens/samples and enters sample data into laboratory database

    + Prints and prepares client reports and invoices for delivery

    + Prepares and calibrates laboratory equipment and instruments for operation

    + Monitors and records facility quality control data

    + Performs minor repair and maintenance on laboratory equipment

    + Ensures glassware and equipment are washed and sterilized

    + Receives ordered supplies, completes order documentation, and notifies appropriate staff of receipt

    + Makes laboratory media and reagents and performs required quality assurance testing

    + Processes bio-waste per established procedure (i.e. autoclaving)

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position.     + Good knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, and procedures, and the fundamental laboratory methods relating to chemistry or biology.

    + Experience performing standardized laboratory tests according to prescribed procedures.

    + Experience calculating and recording test results.

    + Experience maintaining a clean, sterile, and safe laboratory environment.
