    Job Description

    The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. BPHC provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to service providers and community groups; conducts research; and develops policies and programs to deliver high quality clinical care which best serve New Yorkers.

     

    The BPHC is seeking to hire a JPHN. This position will be working closely with the Immunization Clinic Supervisor. The Immunization Nurse will be an integral member of the Bureau of Public Health Clinics, working directly with other nurses and public health advisors and collaborating with physicians, and administrative staff. Their primary responsibilities will include administering vaccines, monitoring patients for adverse reactions, providing vaccine education, and ensuring accurate documentation.

    DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

    - Maintain confidentiality of all patient information in compliance with HIPAA and DOHMH policies.

     

    - Multi-task effectively in a busy clinic environment, balancing direct patient care, recordkeeping, and coordination with team members.

     

    - Meet deadlines for vaccine administration, reporting, and clinic flow to ensure timely and efficient services.

     

    - Collaborate with team members to meet public health goals, particularly during peak demand periods (e.g., flu season, back-to-school, outbreak response).

     

    - Support the Bureau's mission of reducing vaccine-preventable diseases and increasing access to immunization services across New York City.

    PREFERRED SKILLS:

    - Current NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license.

     

    - Clinical experience in administering immunizations to both pediatric and adult populations.

     

    - Knowledge of vaccine storage, handling, and administration protocols in accordance with CDC and DOHMH guidelines.

     

    - Familiarity with immunization schedules and contraindications.

     

    - Strong documentation skills and proficiency with electronic health records (EHR).

     

    - Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.

     

    - Experience working with diverse populations in a public health or community clinic setting.

     

    - Demonstrated ability to remain calm and professional in high-volume, fast-paced clinical environments.

     

    - Demonstrate an ability to read, understand and implement non-specific patient orders (standing orders) independently, including collecting patient history, conducting patient assessment to detect contraindications and determine vaccine eligibility.

    Preferred Skills:

    - Experience in public health nursing and/or community outreach.

     

    - Knowledge of NYC Immunization Registry (CIR) or similar immunization databases.

     

    - Experience with health education and counseling to promote vaccine confidence.

     

    - Ability to train or precept new staff or volunteers on immunization protocols.
