    Performs general repair and maintenance of architectural and structural systems in county buildings. Items such as doors, windows, floors, walls, ceiling stairs, office furniture, shelving, roof repairs and other related work. Safely operates, cleans, maintains and stores a variety of stationery and hand tools, inspects facilities to identify architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing deficiencies, also conducts building safety inspections. Prepares work requests for all necessary architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs and maintenance, coordinates with facility users to correct deficiencies in building systems. A flexible working schedule is required as well as overtime, call-back, and on-call.

    Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities

     

    + General knowledge of the equipment, materials, methods, practices and tools used in the building maintenance and construction trades;

    + Knowledge of the common hazards and necessary safety precautions;

    + Skill in the use of tools, equipment, materials pertinent to the trades;

    + Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams and manufacturers manuals;

    + Ability to maintain good in interpersonal relationships;

    + Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on a County motor vehicle.

     

    Employment Standards

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; plus completion of an acceptable apprentice-level training program in a specific trade with one year of experience performing building maintenance, repair and/or construction work independently, or two years of varied and responsible full performance-level experience in building maintenance, repair or construction trades.

    CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

    Valid driver's license.

    NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, driving record check, and pre-employment medical evaluation to the satisfaction of the employer.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Three (3) years or more of commercial building maintenance experience.

    + Strong knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical and painting in commercial buildings.

    + Ability to maintain records.

    + Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

    + Knowledge of basic safety precautions.

    + Knowledge of basic maintenance principles, practices, materials, and equipment.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Must be able to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for an extended period of time. Must be able to climb extension ladder and scaffolds up to 50 feet. Must be able to lift up and carry up to 75 lbs. with assistance of dolly, lift or staff. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
