    Job Title: Protection and Control EngineerJob Description

     

    Join a dynamic team where passion meets purpose in the Protection and Controls Department. You will collaborate with senior engineers to complete essential protection and control projects with minimal supervision. Engage with both in-house and client engineers and designers, and offer training and guidance to junior engineers.

    Responsibilities

    + Work on green-field and brown-field (retrofit) Protection and Controls Projects in substations.

    + Set relays and conduct relay setting calculations utilizing ASPEN, AcSELerator 5010 (SEL), and related software.

    + Design settings in the appropriate format and pass them on to the assigned field Protection and Controls supervisor using IPS.

    + Mark-up and review protection schematics and elementaries.

    + Utilize MOB to review equipment and materials established by substation engineers for Protection Designers.

    + Work with transformers, circuit breakers, buses, reactors, line disconnects, protective relays systems (SEL, ABB, etc.), and SCADA systems.

    + Perform all engineering and design activities with minimal direction from higher-level engineers.

    + Coordinate work activities of others within the work group and department to complete protection and control projects.

    + Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees.

    + Initiate corrective action when protection and control project objectives are not being met.

    + Work under the supervision of Protection Engineers IV, Senior Engineers, and Principal Engineers.

    + Travel to field substations is required 10-15% of the time.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience in Protection and Control, P&C Design, and Fault Studies.

    + Proficiency in One-Line Diagrams, Fault Analysis, and working with utilities.

    + Five to eight years of experience in utilities working with protection and controls.

    + Five to eight years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish.

    + Five to eight years of experience setting relays and designing one-line diagrams.

    + Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + A PE License is desirable but not required.

    Work Environment

    The work environment is a quiet engineering office where engineers will share an office space. The dress code is business casual, and teamwork is highly encouraged and frequently practiced.

    This is a Permanent position based out of Roanoke, VA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
