    The Governor’s Summer Internship Program (GSI) is designed to give college students real-world, hands-on experience in their desired field of study to enhance marketability upon graduation.     Role Overview:

    This position will serve as a summer Intern for the Hydraulics Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The Hydraulics intern will complete culvert hydraulics projects under the supervision of the hydraulics staff.

    Hourly Rate:

    The hourly wage for this position traditionally starts at $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.

     

    A Day in the Life:

    The essential functions of this role are as follows:

    + Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study

    + Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline

    + Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations

    + Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects

    + Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives

    + Learn some of the computer programs used by the Hydraulics division

    What You'll Need for Success:

    + Working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field

    + Relevant work experience preferred

    + Basic knowledge of the mission and role of INDOT

    + Basic understanding of state policies, procedures, rules, and regulations

    + Knowledge of state government structure, administrative procedures, and the legislative process

    + Ability to research, draft, and edit data and reports

    + Ability to handle multiple projects

    + Ability to operate computer tools

    + Good research and writing skills

    + Good interpersonal and communication skills suitable for a wide variety of contacts

    + Confidence and ability to learn on the job and adapt quickly to changing circumstances

    + Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

    This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
