Description
The Site Surveyor Technician is responsible for executing precise layout and verification tasks using geospatial surveying equipment (e.g. Trimble Total Station). This role ensures accurate field point placement, drawing coordination, and layout support for power generation projects. The person in this role also assists with drawing uploads, answers layout-related questions, and supports installation of power generation and organization of jobsite and other tasks when layout work is complete.
Duties & Responsibilities
+ Maintain a zero-accident environment, is Safety Oriented and will abide by all Wheeler Safety Programs.
+ Effectively operate Trimble total station equipment for layout and verification tasks.
+ Install layout files and coordinate drawing overlays for field execution.
+ Mark and layout points in the field with extreme accuracy.
+ Double-check all layout points and ensure precision in field placement.
+ Assist with uploading and managing drawings on local computers for field teams.
+ Answer layout-related questions and provide support to onsite personnel.
+ Perform installation of accessories on generation equipment as needed.
+ Organize tools, drawings, and layout equipment for efficient field operations.
+ Support other tasks and team members when layout work is completed.
+ Accurately complete required forms, checklists, and documentation
+ Follow written and verbal instructions with precision and consistency
+ Track time spent on tasks and report progress and issues diligently
+ Always adhere to safety protocols and quality standards
+ Performs other work duties as assigned.
Qualifications

+ Ability to communicate technical information effectively with others in person, on the phone, and by e-mail.
+ Ability to answer layout-related questions and support field teams.
+ Willingness to assist with accessory installations and other tasks.
+ Experience operating Trimble total station equipment.
+ Good computer and organizational skills. Adapts well to new technologies.
+ Understands and follow different types of drawings.
+ Ability to multitask while paying attention to detail.
+ High School diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate)
+ Intellectually curious and eager to learn new information and develop new skills.
+ Ability to work well within a team environment.
+ Effective communication skills (in person, phone, and email).
+ Basic experience with AutoCAD and Revit; SolidWorks experience preferred.
+ Familiarity with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
+ Understanding construction drawings and basic drafting principles.
+ Ability to use or learn field tools for total station layout (Trimble preferred).
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
+ Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or in a team.
+ Physically able to visit field sites as needed.
+ High School diploma (or GED/High School Equivalence Certificate); current enrollment in a technical or engineering program preferred.
+ Consistently arrives at work as scheduled, ensuring prompt attendance to maintain project efficiency and reliability
+ Arrives at work in a fit state, both physically and mentally, ready to perform duties safely and effectively.
+ Lifting: Should be able to lift up to 50lbs. consistently on their own or with reasonable accommodation.
+ Pushing/Pulling: Should be able to push/pull utility carts/pallet jacks up to 60lbs. on their own or with reasonable accommodation.
+ Climbing/Ascending/Descending Various Equipment: Should be able to safely climb steps, ladders, and ascend/descend various equipment consistently on their own or with reasonable accommodations.
+ Other Physical Requirements: Will need to be able to stand, walk, squat, bend, and reach throughout their shift on their own or with reasonable accommodation.
