GENERAL DUTIES
Provides information and services to the College community to support the Human Resources function.
- Prepares and executes various personnel transactions involving employee recordkeeping, processing of new hires, pay administration, and recruiting
- Maintains an understanding of policies, procedures, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements relevant to human resources
- Organizes and processes employee information; develops and maintains reports and queries; assures data accuracy and completeness
- Responds to requests for information; troubleshoots issues, follows up and responds to employee inquiries
- Assists HR managers with employee communications of all kinds; may prepare materials, conduct orientation sessions, or update web pages
- Performs related duties as assigned.

Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens **,** LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York (CUNY). LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree programs and more than fifty workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 24,000 students. More than one-third of LaGuardia’s degree-seeking students are born outside the United States; they come from 136 countries and speak 43 heritage languages. Sixty percent are first-generation college students.
Virtually all LaGuardia students are ethnic minorities (89 percent), 58 percent are women, 27 percent are over the age of 25. Forty-six percent of associate degree students are Hispanic. Upon graduation most students transfer to four-year colleges, typically in CUNY, to complete their baccalaureate degrees. Graduates of career programs such as Nursing, Computer Technology, and Veterinary Technology enter the workforce. Reporting to the HR Benefits Manager, the HR Benefits Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating employee benefits for all full and part-time employees at LaGuardia Community College. The Coordinator will serve as a member of the Benefits team and a liaison to the health insurance carriers, retirement systems, union welfare funds, and other related benefits agencies.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, the Benefits Coordinator will also be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
- Provide information relating to employment and benefits to health carriers, welfare funds, and
pension systems;
- Conduct new hire benefit orientations; track and follow-up with benefit enrollments;
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding various benefit plans;
- Assist with the adjunct re-certification, pension service request and tuition waivers;
- Enter benefit related payroll deductions and input income reports;
- Assist with benefits orientation for staff; track and follow-up with benefits enrollments;
- Prepare Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) logs;
-Track and process Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requests;
- Review and process Buy-Out request and Force-In TRS Pension system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree required.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- One to two years’ experience working with employee benefits preferred.
- Experience using PeopleSoft/Oracle information systems (CUNYFirst).
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
- Detail oriented and organized.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
COMPENSATION
$48,647 - $56,720
Salary is commensurate with education and experience
BENEFITS
CUNY offers a comprehensive benefits package to employees and eligible dependents based on job title and classification. Employees are also offered pension and Tax-Deferred Savings Plans. Part-time employees must meet a weekly or semester work hour criteria to be eligible for health benefits. Health benefits are also extended to retirees who meet the eligibility criteria.
