Summary You will serve as a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) LEADER in the F/A-18 MRO Production Department of FLEET READINESS WEST located at Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. Responsibilities You will lead three or more employees in performing work, which is typical of the Sheet Metal Mechanic (Aircraft) trade on F/A-18 aircraft. You will fabricate metal repairs and modify F/A-18 aircraft sheet metal and composite structure and various component parts of the F/A-18 aircraft. You will provide leadership of a group assigned to special projects, assist in the training of personnel as it pertains to the sheet metal mechanic-oriented tasks. You will pass on instructions received from a supervisor to other workers, set the pace and demonstrate proper work methods. You will be required to have regular and predictable attendance, which is an essential function of this position. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to Lead or Supervise 1) Possess full journeyman skills and working knowledge in the sheet metal processing techniques and aircraft maintenance procedures; 2) Fabricate metal repairs and modify aircraft sheet metal and composite structure and various parts; 3) Disassemble, modify repair and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft and associated components; 4) Install airframe changes, engineering modifications, structural repairs and technical enhancements to meet requirements; 5) Read, interpret and comply with directions and requirements within blueprints, sketches, technical data, and engineering specifications; 6) Demonstrate acceptable level of skill pertaining to the use of hand tools related to the metal smith trade; 7) Utilize skills for sheet metal machinery; 8) Use precision measuring tools to accomplish work tasks; and 9) Communicate and provide training and instruction to personnel of various levels.
