New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a tenured position as Associate/Full Professor in Leadership and Innovation who will also serve as Executive Director of the EdD in Leadership and Innovation program, to begin September 1, 2026. The appointed faculty member will join the Department of Administration, Leadership and Technology (ALT), a department that prepares leaders, researchers, teaching faculty, and trainers for schools, colleges, nonprofit agencies, and business settings.
Steinhardt’s EdD in Leadership and Innovation is a thriving, cross-sector program enrolling accomplished professionals who collaborate with faculty and leaders from a range of industries to develop innovative, scalable solutions in their organizations. The new Executive Director will assume leadership of a strong and growing program with an established reputation for academic excellence, professional impact, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the next phase of the EdD program’s strategic direction, curricular innovation, and global visibility. The Executive Director will have significant influence over program design, pedagogical approaches, and external partnerships, working with an experienced faculty to continue strengthening the program’s impact and reach.
Responsibilities:
As Executive Director, the successful candidate will oversee the program’s operations, including programming, strategic planning, budgeting, staffing, teaching assignments, and curriculum implementation. The role also includes coordinating faculty contributions, supporting student progress, and ensuring the smooth functioning of all academic and administrative aspects of the EdD in Leadership and Innovation.
In addition to leading the EDLI program, the successful candidate is also expected to sustain an active research agenda—demonstrated through publications and extramural funding—teach in the program, advise and mentor graduate students, and contribute service to the program, Department, School, and University.
The appointed faculty will have access to NYU's dynamic Global Network University that includes NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and international programs and academic centers around the world. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in research and teaching at these global study and research sites.
Candidates should be able to provide evidence of:
+ Terminal Degree — Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent in leadership, innovation, organizational behavior, education, or a related field.
+ Scholarly Record — Evidence of sustained research productivity, publications, and teaching excellence appropriate to the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
+ Strategic Leadership Experience — Demonstrated success in leading academic programs, centers, or cross-disciplinary initiatives.
+ Administrative Competence — Experience managing budgets, staff, and operations with accountability for outcomes.
+ External Engagement — Ability to build partnerships with industry, community, and other stakeholders; experience with fundraising or grant acquisition preferred.
+ Entrepreneurial and Change-Oriented Mindset — Track record as a creative, forward-thinking leader capable of driving institutional transformation and inspiring others.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
The position will provide additional compensation for serving as Executive Director.
