Under the direct supervision of the Director, Invasive Services, the Vascular Access Nurse Specialist is responsible for assisting in the development of standards for vascular access therapies and the development and provision of related educational activities for various medical personnel; is responsible for related quality assurance and the coordination of care for patients receiving vascular access therapies.

A caregiver in this position works variable shifts from 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. May be required to work every 6th Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Evaluate/Screen patients for potential vascular access devices; consults physician when such device is recommended; obtains orders for device placement; facilitates insertion process.
+ Evaluate patients and place PICC lines in accordance with policy and practice standards, assesses and follows patient pre- and post-procedure.
+ Act as a resource for vascular access devices; monitors, reassesses and trouble-shoots problems, repairs devices, facilitates de-clotting of devices as appropriate.
+ Maintain vascular access database for patients with PICC lines.
+ Maintain medical records relating to PICC insertion and vascular access activities.
+ Coordinate nursing care and discharge planning for patients with vascular access devices.
+ Assist in developing forms, policies, and procedures pertaining to specialized vascular access device care, monitors compliance.
+ Compile statistical reports regularly.
+ Develops, monitors, and reports QI and PI monitors for PICC lines.
+ Evaluates equipment used in vascular access program.
+ Oversee and assists with education and certification to nurses, residents and other medical staff about vascular access devices and PICC line insertions.
+ Participate in research activities related to vascular access and PICC program and integrates research findings into practice.
+ Maintains PICC insertion database for all AGMC sites.
+ Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.
+ Remains flexible to work in and cross train between other areas in the Heart and Vascular Center.
+ Support and participates in community wellness programs.
+ Serves as preceptor for university students in nursing and/or other health sciences.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or equivalent experience in appropriate setting with graduate of an accredited school of nursing
+ Current state of Ohio RN license
+ Obtain and retain certification as a PICC Inserter within two years on the job.
+ Maintain competencies specific to patient population served
+ Two years of medical/surgical nursing with vascular access experience
+ Experience in teaching
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ PICC/Midline and Ultrasound guided IVs experience
Physical Requirements:
+ Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
+ Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
+ Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
+ Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.
+ Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

+ Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $33.50
Maximum hourly: $53.60
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate's actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate's work history, experience, skill set and education. The pay range displayed does not include any applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime, etc.).
