ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of Program Director and Cook, the Assistant Cook is responsible for assisting in food preparation service, receiving and cleaning up. Supervision of kitchen staff and volunteers while adhering to sanitation standards. Specific duties and responsibilities include:
+ Supervise or assist in portioning and serving of the food if assigned.
+ Assist in supervising safe handling and proper temperature control or prepared food
+ Assist in proper functioning and cleaning of kitchen and kitchen equipment, dining area, and adherence to NYC Aging and NYS DOH sanitation standards.
+ Assist in maintaining food usage records and assist in taking monthly inventory.
+ Assist in receiving food orders as needed
+ In the absence of the cook, assume his/her responsibilities.
+ Perform other duties as required by the supervisor of the site.
COMPETENCIES
+ Ability to stand for long hours and able to lift heavy objects.
+ Ability to read, write and speak English.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
+ Some High School Coursework; High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
+ City of New York Department of Health Certificate of Food Protection required.
+ At least 6 months of cook/prep experience.
