Project Engineer – Heavy Civil / Deep Foundations (Federal Dry Dock Program)
O‘ahu, HI • $100,000–$160,000 (DOE)
About the Company
My client is part of the core delivery team on a multi-billion-dollar federal program at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard—one of Hawai‘i’s most consequential infrastructure efforts in decades. This multi-year project involves complex deep foundations, shoring systems, dewatering operations, marine concrete, and high-risk heavy civil work.
Engineers on this team gain career-defining experience in a highly technical, highly coordinated environment where precision, safety, and documentation are essential.
About the Role
They are hiring a Project Engineer to support field operations across deep foundations and heavy civil scopes. This role is heavily involved in pile driving, excavation support, temporary works, dewatering, and major marine concrete placements, with daily interaction alongside superintendents, foremen, engineers, inspectors, and NAVFAC representatives.
If you want to advance your career into senior engineering or superintendent roles within major federal/marine construction, this is an exceptional pathway.
Key Responsibilities
+ Manage pile driving operations: maintain pile logs, blow counts, testing data, redlines, and QC documentation.
+ Review and process RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings for piling, rebar, shoring, formwork, and civil/structural components.
+ Coordinate pile driving sequences, crane operations, excavation support, and large concrete pours across multiple subcontractors.
+ Track daily production, equipment allocations, quantities, and critical path activities using P6 or MS Project.
+ Maintain daily reports and compliance records required for NAVFAC, USACE, and EM 385-1-1.
+ Work directly with Superintendents to resolve field conflicts, verify installation methods, and maintain crew productivity.
+ Support safety, environmental, and quality control procedures in challenging marine conditions.
+ Communicate actively with inspectors, consultants, testing agencies, and internal project controls teams.
Role Expectations
+ Maintain a strong presence in the field—this is a boots-on-the-ground engineering role.
+ Anticipate constructability challenges with soil conditions, pile refusal, dewatering, shoring, and marine operations.
+ Keep documentation tight and timely—federal work depends on accuracy.
+ Support sequencing decisions that directly impact production efficiency and schedule.
+ Uphold the highest safety and quality standards on a site governed by EM 385-1-1.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
+ **6+ years of experience** in heavy civil, deep foundations, or marine construction.
+ Hands-on knowledge of pile driving, shoring systems, excavation support, and dewatering.
+ Familiarity with **NAVFAC/USACE** , EM 385-1-1, and federal QC processes strongly preferred.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office; scheduling experience with **Primavera P6** preferred.
+ Strong communication skills and confidence working in high-risk, high-coordination environments.
