    About Seton College:

    Seton College is a new two-year college division of UMSV that will offer an associate’s degree for 100 students that have been historically underserved, who may require additional academic support, and who are motivated for post-secondary success annually beginning in the 2024–25 academic year. The program’s goal is to prepare students to enroll in a bachelor’s degree program or to begin their professional careers. Seton College students will study on the Riverdale Campus of UMSV and have full access to UMSV’s facilities and programs.     Job Description:

    Writing in Context II, the second course in the required writing sequence, builds on skills developed in ENGL 110 by strengthening students’ writing, critical-thinking, information literacy, and research abilities. Emphasizing analysis, argument, and research, the course prepares students for academic and professional success. A grade of C or better is required to pass.

    Schedule:

    + Eng120: Writing in Context II - Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30pm-3:55pm

    Responsibilities:

    + Teach 3-6 credits in subject area of expertise using teaching practices that have been shown to be effective for first-generation students.

    + Provide an up to date syllabus for students.

    + Maintain an engaging and welcoming classroom setting that promotes high standards and inclusivity.

    + Actively contribute to a professional learning community by participating in professional development that promotes pedagogical learning and growth.

    + Be present and available to students on campus during office hours.

    Requirements

    + Master’s degree in the subject area required; doctorate preferred

    + Demonstrated enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and use of active-learning pedagogy

    + Commitment to engaging students beyond the classroom experience

    + Willingness to continuously improve teaching practices and collaborate within a learning community

    + Strong commitment to serving a diverse student population, including underserved, minority, and first-generation college students

    + Student-centered philosophy aligned with the mission of the University of Mount Saint Vincent to educate the whole person

    + Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing, and presentation skills

    + Strong organizational skills with keen attention to detail

    + Proactive and creative approach to problem-solving

    + Experience working with HEOP students is highly encouraged

     

    Benefits
