Initial hours of assignment: 8:30am - 4:00pm (inclusive of 1/2 hour unpaid lunch)
12 months per school year
The NYS HELPS (Hiring for Emergency Limited placement Program Statewide) is a NYS program that allows civil service agencies to hire qualified permanent employees quickly and without requiring them to take a competitive civil service exam. It was created to help agencies fill critical vacancies by streamlining the appointment process, though candidates must still meet all other minimum qualifications for the job.
The work involves the performance of typing and varied duties of a moderately difficult nature. This class differs from that of Clerk Typist by virtue of the more difficulty and varied nature of the work performed and by the independent judgment in the application of established procedures and methods that is exercised by the incumbent. Does related work as required.
Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, including or supplemented by a course in typing and one year of office clerical experience.
Note: Completion of a one year or longer post high school secretarial course, which included typing, may be substituted for the required experience. Additional office clerical experience which included typing, beyond the one year requirement, may be substituted for high school on a year-for-year basis. Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
Special Requirements:

+ ability to type from clear copy or rough draft at an average rate of speed;

Typical Work Activities:
+ Diligent record keeping skills;
+ familiar with computer programs such as e school and wits; budget, and WinCap, G-Suite;
+ ability to perform calmly in a busy office;
+ work with faculty, staff, parents, students, and community - report directly to principal;
+ general office duties: main office receptionist; messages for teachers, staff and parents; announcements throughout the day via PA Data entry;
+ responsible for teacher, aide and substitute payroll process;
+ back-up to purchasing and assist with certain spreadsheets and other duties;
+ is familiar with and contributes to the successful implementation of the District's Mission and Belief statements;
+ types accounting and financial statements, payrolls, statistical tabulations and data, for letters, memoranda, vouchers, reports, requisitions and other material;
+ reviews accounts, reports and other documents for completeness, accuracy and conformity with established procedures;
+ indexes and files documents and correspondence;
+ searches, locates, and records papers and documents;
+ assembles a variety of data from office records for incorporation into various reports;
+ prepares payrolls and maintains time cards;
+ composes and types routine correspondence;
+ assists in proofreading typewritten and printed materials;
+ answers telephone;
+ gives routine information to the public;
+ makes appointments;
+ operates an adding machine, calculator, copier, computer, or other office machines;
+ collects and maintains records of fees collected by department;
+ operates an alpha-numeric key board to transcribe data to either punch-cards, tapes, magnetic discs or directly to a computer;
+ perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
