    Job Title: Phlebotomist - Pennington Gap

    Job Description

    The primary role of the Phlebotomist II is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations within the laboratory environment.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens as required.

    + Record maintenance data and ensure proper decontamination of equipment.

    + Update patient information accurately and efficiently.

    + Collect and store specimens following established procedures.

    + Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture process to patients.

    + Demonstrate proper techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

    + Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes accurately.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens according to test orders.

    + Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.

    + Place samples in appropriate collection containers and label them accurately.

    + Follow specific protocols to maintain the integrity of the specimen for transport.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department training sessions.

    + Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, if required.

    + Minimum of 1+ year' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 2-4 years of experience in phlebotomy.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience in a high-volume environment is required.

    + Confidence in performing pediatric venipunctures.

    + Ability to handle administrative tasks using specific computer systems.

    + Willingness to travel to Patient Service Centers (PSCs) and In-Office Phlebotomy (IOP) locations.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Pennington Gap, VA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $22.25 - $22.25/hr.
