    Area Coordinator for Residence Life

    Job Description:

    The Area Coordinator for Residence Life at Hinds Community College is a critical full-time professional staff member responsible for the comprehensive management and student development within 1-3 designated residence halls/communities. This position primarily focuses on staff supervision, directly mentoring and leading a team of 8-15 Resident Assistants (RAs) and managing their selection, training, and evaluation. A core duty involves community building, ensuring the implementation of the Residential Engagement Model to foster positive academic achievement, personal development, and social interaction among residents. The Coordinator serves as a primary student support and crisis management resource, interpreting and enforcing university policy, providing advisement and referrals, and participating in a rotating on-duty schedule for emergency response. Additionally, the role includes significant administrative duties such as budgeting, coordinating major departmental operations (e.g., openings/closings, summer projects), and advising student leadership organizations like the Residence Hall Association (RHA).

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is required; appropriate coursework in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or related field. Ability to supervise staff, manage selection processes for student and professional staff. Must be able to follow through on multiple and often simultaneous projects and work under time sensitive deadlines.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** **, include the following.

    Staff Supervision & Development:

    •Directly supervise, mentor, and lead a team of 8-15 Resident Assistants (RAs) across 1-3 residence halls/communities.

     

    Participate in the recruitment, selection, training, and performance evaluation process for student staff.

    Coordinate and manage monthly staff in-service training

    •** **Community Building & Resident Support:

     

    Coordinate with Assistant Director for Residence Life and implement the Residential Engagement Model to foster student academic achievement, personal development, and positive community living.

     

    Provide comprehensive advisement, information, and referral services for residents.

     

    Collaborate with RAs to develop, promote, and implement community development activities and educational programming.

     

    Manage the community engagement budget for assigned buildings.

     

    •** **Operations, Policy, and Crisis Management:

     

    Interpret, communicate, document, and enforce university and residential policies and regulations.

     

    Serve in a rotating on-duty role for emergency response and crisis intervention, including coverage during breaks.

     

    Provide intervention and referral for students experiencing difficulties; assist with Dean of Students case management.

     

    Assist in developing housing procedures, including residence hall opening/closing and emergency protocols.

    Campus Leadership & Engagement:

    Serve as the primary advisor for the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), facilitating student leadership opportunities.

     

    Coordinate social media promotion of residential life events.

     

    Participate in various campus committees and departmental projects, including major summer operations (e.g., intern housing, conference management).

    Supervise Residents Assistants and Desk Assistants
