    Position Summary

    The Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of informatics strategies within the clinical departments of the Healthcare system. This position is responsible for managing, maintaining, and promoting the use of information systems and supporting users in application functions. Acts as a change agent and project leader to support the operational and strategic clinical initiatives throughout the organization. Serves as the liaison for information services and clinical departments representing nursing and clinician needs.

     

    Primary Position Responsibilities

     

    + Works with members of clinical departments and information services in evaluating the effectiveness of clinical systems, technologies, and workflows that impact clinical users and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflows to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes.

    + Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of informatics strategies to support and integrate quality patient care and professional practice.

    + Combines knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively address the information and knowledge needs of clinical departments.

    + Promotes the use of clinical information systems to improve clinical care and patient safety by designing, developing, and implementing decision support tools.

    + Participates as a project leader in project planning and development, focusing on initiatives supporting clinical care services. Develops outcomes-oriented work plans and manages project activities and deliverables and provides technical assistance and consultation to clinical departments regarding project activities.

    + Collects, analyzes, and reports data in collaboration with quality on patient safety issues and outcome to leadership/management.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education :

    Required:

    + All hires after July 2012 are required to have a Bachelor's Degree in nursing OR if Associates Degree or Diploma, RN must provide proof of enrollment in a BSN program prior to hire, be continuously enrolled and complete within 5 years of hire date or internal RN promotion date.

    Preferred:

    + Master’s Degree in Nursing, preferably Informatics or Healthcare related field

    Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation) :

    Required:

    + 3 – 5 years of experience and proven leadership in a clinical practice.

    + Experience in healthcare information systems and technology.

    Preferred:

    + Experience in project management

    License, Registry or Certification :

    Required:

    + Current and active RN license

    Preferred:

    + American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) – Nursing Informatics or CPHIMS or CAHIMS or equivalents

    Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities :

    Required:

    + None

    Preferred:

    + General knowledge of clinical healthcare information system applications, personal computers, and networks.

    + Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

    + General knowledge of project management and change management principles.

    + Ability to collaborate, facilitate teams, and foster consensus on process issues; desire to work with people; exceptional verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal relationship skills.

    + Experience in policy/procedure development and staff training; ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies.

    + Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
