Tradesperson - Lock Shop
Position Description:
Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions:
+ Repairs, services, and installs commercial and institutional locks/hardware, including desks, file cabinets, automotive locks, and other miscellaneous locks on campus.
+ Sets up and maintains master key systems, including cutting initial keys, setting cylinders, and expanding systems as needed.
+ Changes safe combinations, adjusts as required, opens locks/safes when keys or combinations are lost/malfunctioning, and installs/repairs door closures.
+ Assists in maintaining inventory, processes key issuance and returns, and advises the shop foreman on job/project status and operational issues.
+ Provides after-hours overtime work as required and participates in the emergency call-back roster on a rotating basis.
+ Trains personnel in the apprenticeship program on job-related maintenance tasks, ensuring skill development and operational continuity.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Three (3) years experience as skilled locksmith.
+ Technical training courses including, but not limited to the locksmith field preferred but not required.
+ Completion of approved locksmith certified training program.

Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in written and mathematical skills as may be reflected in the completion of high school or equivalent. This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
