Summary
This position requires expert-level proficiency in supporting the Water SCADA system, a 24/7 real time operational control system, providing water transmission, distribution, and generation for the safe delivery of water from the dams throughout the valley to shareholders, municipalities, and other entities. The role involves precise construction and regular maintenance of control system equipment throughout the valley water system and the reservoirs. Candidate must possess the ability to program and commission smart network devices, logic controllers, and intelligent instrumentation. The role necessitates project management skills, independent operation, and collaborative teamwork to ensure reliable functionality of the system including critical after-hours support of system issues.
What You'll Do
+ Apply expert knowledge in the design, construction, installation, operations, and maintenance of sophisticated control systems to safeguard critical water infrastructure and ensure operational safety across the system. Includes all phases of construction at water sites such as installation of equipment cabinets, raceways/conduit, instrumentation mounting and wiring.
+ Oversee and manage technical aspects of equipment installations amongst multiple field groups, ensuring correct execution and adherence to specifications during project delivery for quality assurance.
+ Leads the commissioning of advanced control system equipment at site locations, ensuring optimal performance, quality control, and seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
+ Perform in-depth system analysis and troubleshooting utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to enhance the reliability and performance of the Water SCADA system and associated control, electrical and communication equipment.
+ Ensure compliance with documentation and print standards through precise updating and reporting, safeguarding the integrity of the associated control/communication equipment.
+ Execute detailed annual preventative maintenance and reporting across over 640 Water Group sites, employing deep technical knowledge and precision.
+ Programming, configuring, and commissioning of intelligent logic controller devices using specialized software and tools such as RemoteConnect, SCADAPack Workbench, TelePACE, and LoggerNet.
+ Program and install smart user interface systems for intuitive and seamless integration with control panels ensuring flawless operation and an enhanced customer experience.
+ Configuration of smart instrumentation (level, flow, pressure, etc.) through the use of specialized software.
+ Configuration and commissioning of electronic actuators including internal operations such as setting of limits, torque, and other configurable parameters along with troubleshooting wiring issues.
+ Installation, maintenance and configuration of control and measurement equipment at reservoir and hydro-generation sites.
+ Commissions network and communication equipment, including firewalls, switches, and radios, to ensure robust system support and connectivity. Proficiency in various communication protocols is necessary to effectively support and maintain system equipment.
+ Responsible for installation, configuration, and commissioning of water quality sites, ensuring reliable data collection for environmental compliance and accurate regulatory reporting.
+ Installs, programs, configures, and commissions weather stations in support of SRP water, electrical, and meteorological operations including forecasting, watershed management, and long-range planning.
+ Verify flow equations, instrumentation and measurements for contract delivery points including OCF, city, and other accounts. Conduct verifications as necessary and ensure accuracy of field devices for Water Transmission, Water Distribution, and all accounting functions.
+ Provide support and guidance to other internal SRP departments and outside agencies in the design, installation, and maintenance of control systems.
+ Manage material requirements through work management systems, ensuring the availability of critical components for system integrity.
+ Provide detailed communication of daily work activities, including comprehensive status updates and work order logs, to ensure transparency and alignment with operational goals. Ability to effectively handle work order redirection and coordination with other departments.
+ Be available for overtime and on-call duties, providing expert-level intervention for critical system incidents and emergency response.
What It Takes To Succeed
+ Solid working knowledge of electrical and electronic theory with a focus on advanced control systems. Power and solar fundamentals are a must.
+ In-depth knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, DNP, and HART, with proven expertise in applying these in complex system environments.
+ Must be comfortable working around high voltages related to the electrical components of the control system equipment, adhering to the highest safety and operational standards.
+ Extensive experience with advanced water sensor technology such as radar, ultrasonics, level transducers, pressure transducers, floats, velocity, and flow meters.
+ Experience with Wonderware HMI software or equivalent high-level HMI systems.
+ Demonstrated experience with IP networking communication, routing, and configuration.
+ Prefer experience working with gate actuators and deep well pumps.
+ Proficient in using test equipment, software, and other specialty tools for testing and configuring control systems and communications related equipment.
+ Superior troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, capable of addressing the most challenging technical issues. Ability to read and interpret official engineering drawings for construction and troubleshooting.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear and effective interaction with supervisors, peers, and stakeholders. Responsible for safeguarding confidential and sensitive information, always ensuring its security and integrity.
+ Ability to function with high efficiency both independently and within a specialized technical team.
Experience
+ Technician 1, no experience required, this level will participate in a four-year apprenticeship, or equivalent training program.
+ Technician 2, minimum of 4 years of experience, completion of four-year apprenticeship or training program, or equivalent training.
+ Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Water SCADA Technician 2 or 6 years related experience required for the Senior Technician level.
Education
Completion of an appropriate Apprenticeship program or equivalent.
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
