    Responsibilities

    + Assesses and monitors total physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual needs of surgical patients from infant through geriatrics.

    + Develops and maintains an individualized, professionally modified plan of care reflective of changing needs/outcomes by evaluating the patient's needs during procedure.

    + Provides nursing care in accordance with nursing standards and the patient's plan of care.

    + Initiates teaching appropriate to patient procedure.

    + Performs circulating scrub duties according to surgery standards.

    + Assists the surgeon with exposure, hemostasis, wound closure and retraction.

    + Maintains aseptic technique.

    + Positions electrosurgical grounding pad.

    + Performs accurate sponge, instrument and sharps count.

    + Applies tourniquet cuffs to extremities.

    + Communicates with other members of the healthcare team in order to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.

    + Participates in unit operations demonstrating professional behaviors to include supporting goals of Nursing unit and maintaining awareness of resource utilization.

    + Participates in non-direct patient care activities including educational activities, performance improvement activities, standards development and review, hospital/nursing committees and other related activities.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing preferred, Associate Degree required

     

    Nursing/Certified RNFA Course preferred

    Licensure:

    Current RN Licensure in State of Iowa

    Experience:

    None required for RN, prefer 2 years’ surgical (OR) experience for RNFA
