POSITION DETAILS
The City University of New York (CUNY), the nation's largest urban public university system, seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as University Dean for Health and Human Services. CUNY plays a vital role in preparing committed, qualified graduates to meet the workforce needs of New York City and State in health and human services.
Reporting to the Senior University Dean for Graduate and Undergraduate Programming, the University Dean will provide strategic leadership and oversight of academic programs related to health and human services across CUNY’s 25 colleges and graduate schools. The Dean will work collaboratively with Chief Academic Officers, Deans, and Department Chairs to coordinate planning, assessment, innovation, and program development.
Key responsibilities include long-term academic planning, support for cross-campus initiatives, development of career ladders for the health workforce, the use of data and assessment to improve student outcomes, and collaboration on university-wide Office of Academic Affairs initiatives. The Dean will help ensure high-quality academic and clinical experiences, compliance with accreditation and certification standards, and alignment with workforce trends.
The Dean will cultivate new partnerships and collaborations across the spectrum of health-related industries. This includes working closely with major stakeholders such as the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the NYS Department of Health, NYC Health and Hospitals, the Greater New York Hospital Association, and labor unions including 1199SEIU and DC37. Additionally, the Dean will lead efforts to secure external funding and oversee grant-funded initiatives.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
+ Lead and coordinate CUNY’s Health and Human Services portfolio across 25 campuses.
+ Collaborate with Deans and Department Chairs to implement a unified, university-wide strategy.
+ Represent CUNY on health-related policy and legislative matters with public agencies, employers, unions, and professional organizations.
+ Cultivate partnerships with major employers to expand clinical placements and job opportunities for students.
+ Work with legal counsel and other stakeholders to establish affiliation agreements and manage insurance for clinical training sites.
+ Develop and disseminate best practices for academic advisement and student transfer, including alternatives for students unable to enter competitive programs such as nursing.
+ Monitor healthcare labor trends and align academic offerings with regional needs.
+ Facilitate the career advancement of incumbent workers in health, behavioral health, and human services.
+ Implement key recommendations from the University’s Behavioral Health Task Force, including the establishment of an interprofessional Health Professions Council.
+ Manage budgets, staff, and grant-funded projects.
+ Lead data, research, and evaluation efforts to guide policy and practice.
+ Promote faculty and student development, with an emphasis on interprofessional education.
+ Foster strategic external partnerships that support the University’s academic and workforce development goals.
+ Oversee internal and external communications, including digital platforms and media.
+ Ensure coordination across CUNY offices, including Academic Affairs, Workforce Development, Institutional Research, Enrollment Management, Government Relations, Legal Affairs, and Student Success.
NOTE:
Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum:
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Preferred:
+ Graduate degree in allied health, public health, health administration, Health, or a related field (doctoral degree preferred).
+ Eight or more years of senior-level experience in higher education and/or health care leadership.
+ Strong track record of program development and the use of data to measure outcomes and improve programs.
+ Experience managing multiple teams and complex initiatives.
+ Excellent leadership, organizational, strategic-thinking, and decision-making skills.
+ Demonstrated success in grant development and securing external funding
+ Commitment to the mission and values of a large, public, urban university.
+ Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and cross-functional teams within andacross organizational boundaries.
+ Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
+ High level of professional integrity, creativity, ability to work 4-days a week in person andadaptability.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is **$185,000 - $210,000** , commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.
