As a Substation Project Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting the preparation of scopes, schedules, and budgets, ensuring that all schedules and budgets are met. You will also understand protection and control design, including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring. You will prepare calculations for studies and reports such as grounding, lighting protection, and AC/DC load studies. Additionally, you will prepare equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing, coordinate design activities with other departments, and effectively communicate and coordinate project activities with managers, clients, and others as needed. You will work independently and may direct, mentor, train, and supervise efforts of less-experienced Engineers in Training (EITs) and Designers.
Responsibilities
+ Support the preparation of project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
+ Ensure that project schedules and budgets are met.
+ Understand and implement protection and control design including panel arrangements, one lines/single lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, equipment wiring, and relay panel wiring.
+ Prepare calculations for studies and reports such as grounding, lighting protection, and AC/DC load studies.
+ Prepare equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing.
+ Coordinate design activities with departments such as Civil/Structural, Networks, and Transmission Line.
+ Communicate and coordinate project activities with managers, clients, and other stakeholders.
+ Work independently while directing, mentoring, training, and supervising efforts of less-experienced EITs and Designers.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
+ Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
+ Experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software such as PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit.
+ Minimum 4 years of experience in substation design.
+ Experience performing aspects associated with substation design, including One Line Diagrams, General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding, Conduit Plans, Foundation Plans, Material Lists, Relay and Control Systems, Control Schematics, and Wiring Diagrams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience with substation design for 12kV through 500kV desired, with experience through 765kV an added benefit.
+ Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired.
+ Some travel may be required.
Work Environment
Projects are located within Tennessee, specifically in local TVA & Data Centers. While candidates can sit anywhere in Tennessee, preference is given to those located in Nashville, Chattanooga, or Knoxville. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Knoxville, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $55.00/hr.
