Job Title: Sr Pump Mechanic (Nights)

Job Description

Join a dynamic service and repair company specializing in pumps and rotating equipment. As a Sr Pump Mechanic, you will work in the shop to recondition pumps from the field based on blueprints and drawings. Your primary tasks will include repairing, refurbishing, overhauling, and dismantling various types of pumps, including split case, overhung, horizontal, and multistage pumps.

Responsibilities

+ Recondition pumps from the field based on blueprints and drawings.

+ Repair, refurbish, overhaul, and dismantle split case, overhung, horizontal, and multistage pumps.

+ Read and interpret blueprints and schematics.

+ Use scales, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments for precision work.

+ Perform alignments, boring, and overhauls.

+ Assemble and repair mechanical components, including compressors and turbines.

+ Work with reciprocating and deep well pumps.

+ Maintain and repair API pumps and utilize API mechanic skills.

Essential Skills

+ 7+ years of experience as a Pump Mechanic in a pump shop.

+ Proficiency in handling all types of pumps, including vertical and horizontal.

+ Strong knowledge in repair, refurbishing, overhaul, and dismantling of pumps.

+ Experience in reading blueprints and using various measuring instruments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with multistage or horizontal pumps.

+ Knowledge in balancing bearings and working on seals and gaskets.

+ Manual machining experience with VTL Vertical Turret Lath or HBM Horizontal Boring Mill.

+ Ability to use lathes, drill presses, milling machines, grinders, acetylene torches, impact wrenches, overhead cranes, and forklifts.

+ Welding experience, including MIG, TIG, and Heliarc.

+ Experience with Tier 1, 2, and 3 pumps.

Work Environment

Work in a medium-sized, air-conditioned shop that is bustling with business. The night shift operates Monday to Friday from 3:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., and Saturdays from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Employees work 10-hour shifts, usually 60+ hours per week, with occasional Sundays for double-time pay. The night shift includes 3 manual machinists, 8 pump mechanics, and 1 welder. Employees are required to wear steel-toed boots, jeans, work shirts, and safety glasses. The company plans to move to a larger shop in 2024 or 2025.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX 77075.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $44.00/hr.
