JobSummary: As Project Manager, Store Design, you will assist the Store Design team with managing aspects of new store buildings, existing store remodels and relays by resolving construction and facility issues, ensuring each project is delivered on time, to completion and to the required standard. As a key contributor and function as a liaison between the internal construction team, facilities team, as well as the general contractors assigned or acquired for each project. You have a passion for identifying process improvement, the optimal set up for a retail space and you understand how to efficiently align space and floor plans for Barnes & Noble stores. You have a keen ability to manage change and resolve conflict by communicating effectively with cross-functional teams.
An employee in this position can expect an annual starting rate between $100,000 - $125,000 depending on experience, seniority, geographic locations, and other factors permitted by law.
WhatYouDo:
• Visit new stores and project sites to ensure project deadlines are being met throughout the course of the project.
• Ensure fixture placement including register counters, lighting, misc. fixture fillers and finishing panels is set to standard.
• Work closely with APM, Field Team, construction crews, vendors, general contractors, and internal teams throughout project to ensure successful project execution.
• Ensure store finishes and décor packages are properly executed by contractor or trade as delivered by the Store Design team. This includes pin letters, track light positioning, hanging frames and posters, advising on window treatments, installing kid’s character package, kids’ department décor, café décor, counters, lighting plans and placement and more.
• Manage project schedules, plans, checklists, and task details for each project.
• Manage outstanding punch list items, bringing the punch list to completion within 120 days of the new store opening or project completion date.
• Organize project specific meetings/calls with internal and external teams to review project specific progress and issues.
• Review, monthly, open service channel work orders and open issues log to ensure open issues are being addressed and show progress until completed.
• Identify common occurrences for process improvements.
• Direct postmortem meetings upon completion of each project to evaluate its success and identify process improvements, including assessing store map layout, fixture placement, flooring, and lighting opportunities.
• Provide support to store teams, Store Planning teams and Store Design team throughout a given project as needed.
Knowledge&Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Business, Architecture or Design.
• 3-5 Years relevant work experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Initiative-taker and willingness to work independently while adhering to deadlines.
• Proficiency in Word, Excel, Teams, and Access.
• Ability to clearly communicate and adapt to environment around them.
• Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, including construction, facilities, real estate and finance.
• Strong organizational skills and can prioritize and manage multiple projects.
• Proactive, self-aware around how actions impact the process and others around them.
• Solution-based problem solver who can maintain high standards and lead by example.
• History of work in the retail space.
• High level ability to review and modify floor plans to ensure efficiency.
• Effective communication to ensure collaboration cross functionally.
• Willingness to learn and operate proprietary software programs.
• Ability to spend time on the selling floor, which requires physical activity (i.e., prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, climbing).
• Availability to work variable hours as needed to align with store needs.
• Travel - approximately 40% of time on the road with overnight travel, and/or daily commute distances as the business requires.
