    Job Summary

    The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) is seeking highly qualified applicants for a full-time Government and Community Affairs Manager who will be responsible for developing and maintaining strategic relationships with government officials, industry partners, employers, and community stakeholders across the state. The manager plays a key role in strengthening GDOL's visibility, responsiveness, and alignment with the needs of employers, workers, and communities. This position represents GDOL individually and alongside the Labor Commissioner at events, manages constituent services, and supports statewide engagement initiatives. This position is located at 148 Andrew Young International Blvd., NE, Atlanta, Georgia 30303, but requires frequent travel across the state. The manager will report to the Chief of Staff.

    Responsibilities

    Government Relations

     

    Develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with members of the General Assembly, legislative staff, and state agencies to support the agency’s mission, initiatives, and policy priorities.

     

    Facilitate communication and information-sharing between the agency and government partners.

     

    Monitor government activity, community issues, and policy developments that may impact the agency.

     

    Coordinate agency participation in legislative meetings, briefings, and relevant government events.

     

    Community Affairs

     

    Build and foster relationships with employers, industry associations, chambers of commerce, and workforce stakeholders across the state.

     

    Represent the agency in conversations with business and community leaders to address needs, strengthen partnerships, and enhance service delivery.

     

    Assist in planning, organizing, and executing statewide tours for the Labor Commissioner, including engagement with local partners, site visits, and community meetings.

     

    Statewide Representation

     

    Attend community events, conferences, and public meetings as an official representative of the agency.

     

    Speak on behalf of the agency at various events, ensuring accurate communication of mission, programs, priorities, and initiatives.

     

    Serve as a liaison to external organizations to promote awareness of the agency’s services and strengthen statewide engagement.

     

    Constituent Services Management

     

    Supervise and provide leadership to the constituent services team, which responds to inquiries and assists employers, employees, government offices, and community members.

     

    Oversee workflow, performance standards, and service quality to ensure timely and effective responses to constituent needs.

     

    Develop protocols to improve responsiveness, customer service, and problem resolution.

     

    Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of constituent casework, trends, and issues requiring escalation.

    Additional Responsibilities

    Prepare reports, presentations, briefing materials, and talking points for agency leadership.

     

    Assist in strategic planning and implementation of statewide initiatives related to government, industry, and community outreach.

     

    Represent the agency on committees, task forces, and working groups as assigned.

     

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Entry Qualifications

    A bachelor’s degree and one year of work-related experience in government relations, community affairs, or a related field; or an associate degree and two years of work-related experience in government relations, community affairs, or a related field. Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Experience working directly with state agencies, legislators, or industry associations.

     

    Experience speaking publicly on behalf of an organization.

     

    Demonstrated success leading community outreach initiatives.

     

    Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook (calendar/email), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive.

     

    Strong organizational and time management skills.

     

    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

     

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

     

    Ability to travel frequently across the state.

    Bachelor's degree in operations management, business administration, or a related field which includes four (4) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or eight (8) years of related professional experience which includes four (4) years in a managerial or supervisory role; or four (4) years of experience required at the lower level Mgr 2, Business Ops (GSM011) or position equivalent. Note: An equivalent combination of knowledge, education, job or intern experience, training, or certifications that provides the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted year-over-year.
