About the role

As a **Mainframe Developer** , you will make an impact by designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance applications in complex enterprise environments. You will be a valued member of the **Technology & Engineering** team and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver reliable and scalable solutions.

In this role, you will:

+ Develop and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, IMS-DB, DB2, VSAM, and MQ

+ Utilize debugging tools such as Xpeditor to troubleshoot and resolve issues

+ Work with tools like File Aid, Endevor, CA-7, NDM, METS, and S-FTP for application support and maintenance

+ Implement stored procedures and optimize system performance

+ Collaborate with architecture teams to ensure design consistency across systems

+ Apply best practices for coding standards and system integration

+ Stay current with industry trends and incorporate them into development processes

+ Mentor junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing

Work model:

Based on this role’s business requirements, this is an onsite position requiring 5 days a week in a client or Cognizant office in Wilmington, DE.

What you need to have to be considered:

+ 10+ years of mainframe application development experience with COBOL

+ 10+ years of experience in CICS, IMS-DB, DB2, VSAM, and MQ

+ Proficiency with debugging tools such as Xpeditor

+ Familiarity with File Aid, Endevor, CA-7, NDM, METS, S-FTP, XML, CLIST, and REXX

+ Strong understanding of architecture and design principles across systems

+ Working proficiency in development toolsets and best practices

+ Ability to work effectively in large, collaborative teams

+ Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and standards

These will help you stand out:

+ Experience with Java, XML, and JSON

+ Hands-on experience with stored procedures and performance optimization

+ Exposure to enterprise-level infrastructure and operations

+ Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in complex environments

Salary and Other Compensation:

Applications will be accepted until December 30th, 2025

The annual salary for this position is between $100,000 - $115,00 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans.
