The Iowa Prison Industries is looking for a self-motivated, personable Accounting Technician 3 to add to their business office.
In this position you would be responsible for procuring correct materials, assist shop personnel, review requisitions and follow up with vendors.
You would also be responsible for the management of the fixed asset listing and customer invoicing timely and accurately.
This position must have knowledge of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, inventory, manufacturing materials management, production control and product costing as well as purchasing and procurement knowledge.
This position must have a knowledge of all branches, locations and functional areas of IPI.
Iowa Prison Industries is a multi-million dollar manufacturing company with a fully computerized and integrated inventory, materials management, cost accounting, purchasing and financial accounting system.
There are 15 diversified branches within Industries with over 3000 raw materials used in product manufacturing.
Sales totaled over $29 million dollars last year.
These branches are located in Anamosa, Ft Madison, Mitchellville, Newton, Rockwell City, Ft. Dodge and Des Moines.
There is also a sales office in Des Moines.
The diversity and number of the branches greatly increases the complexity of this position.
Iowa Prison Industries provides work and training programs for incarcerated individuals at several of the state’s institutions.
It is fully self-funded and receives no tax dollars.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalency and experience equal to five years of accounting work involving compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal program data using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;
OR
completion of a post-high school accounting curriculum from an accredited vocational, technical, business or community college, with at least twenty semester hours of accounting coursework;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of clerical office work for each year of the required education;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting thirty semester hours of accredited post high school education in Business, Accounting or a closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;
OR
employees withcurrentcontinuous service in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to one year of full-time work as an Accounting Technician 2.
