Position Description
The Minneapolis Convention Center (MCC) is a relationship building. Each individual at MCC is a hospitality hero who fulfills our mission by providing service and fostering relationships. We host more than 300 events annually and contribute to a vibrant downtown community by providing economic impact through visitor spending at hotels, restaurants, arts & attractions, and retail establishments.

The Guest Services Ambassador greets and serves as a point of contact to clients, guests and visitors of the Minneapolis Convention Center providing hospitality information, directions and assistance for activities held at the Minneapolis Convention Center and the City of Minneapolis. They will perform functions including coat check, visitor information desk, badge checkers, service desks, manager on duty and other related event services.
There are currently 3 (three) temporary vacancies to be filled at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Scheduled hours are from 0 to 40 hours per week depending on your availability and our event needs. Schedule may include weekends and holidays and hours vary between 8 am and Midnight.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
+ Provide exceptional customer service as guests arrive and depart the venue; direct and assist guests with directions and event information regarding the Convention Center and the City of Minneapolis; accurately and courteously explain entrance/attendance/building use policies and procedures.
+ Set up and operated the coat/luggage check services, including organizing checked items and tickets to ensure timely and accurate retrieval, accurately charging guests for services, and completing reconciliation and settlement of cash banks and credit card transactions. Lift or move luggage up to 50 pounds and hang coats on racks.
+ Serve as Manager on Duty, which includes liaising between clients and convention center departments, ensuring all event needs are met.
+ Assisting guests in the MCC Parking ramp, directing traffic at entrances and exits as needed, and assisting guests with payment transactions.
+ Other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications
Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
One (1) year experience working in hospitality, retail, or multi-purpose facilities that includes public and guest-facing interaction.
Licenses/Certifications:
None.
Selection Process:
The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.
Background Check:
The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.
Drug & Alcohol Testing:
All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.

Eligible List Statement:
The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire in four (4) months after it has been established.
