Danfoss is seeking a Mechanical Intern to join its team Summer 2026. The Mechanical Engineer Intern will spend most of their time creating concepts, designs, and drawings following good practice and standard engineering procedures.
The Mechanical Engineer Intern will also support testing and production assembly equipment as required during product launch phase. This internship will include hands-on benchmarking of competitive products, design of test and assembly equipment, building of prototypes, setting up and reporting of lab tests, and other aspects of new product development. The opportunity to use equipment and gain experience with an engineering team, dedicated 3D printer, CNC, welding, fabrication, and other machine shop equipment in the development primarily of plastic and metal components and assemblies will also be available.
The internship will begin June 1, 2026. Ability to work during the school semester can be considered. The Mechanical Engineering Intern will report to the Engineering Manager and work out of the Plymouth, MN facility.
What You’ll Be Doing
+ You will perform mechanical design using engineering principles and advanced math concepts.
+ You will create 3D layouts with a complete understanding of the impact of part sizes and interactions, tolerances, static and dynamic system force/travel and displacement.
+ You will troubleshoot returned devices as well as products that fail qualification tests.
+ You will apply advanced engineering skills regarding mechanical design, analysis and problem solving.
+ You will review test plans and documents test results using basic word processing and spreadsheet software.
What We're Looking For
+ Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science - Mechanical Engineering degree granting program from an accredited university. Sophomore status required; Junior or Senior status preferred.
+ Basic knowledge of the following equipment: Machining, Welding, plastic molding, soldering, Digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, PC data acquisition hardware, inspection equipment, power supplies, and current probes.
+ Advanced knowledge of a 3D CAD system (NX) is a plus.
+ Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and electrical schematics and write test reports and correspondence.
+ Knowledge of advanced mathematical concepts such as algebra, calculus, FEA, probability and statistics, geometry and trigonometry.
+ Possess good communication skills to present information to customers and/or employees.
