Posting Description
COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE, Political Science - MIT Election Data + Science Lab (MEDSL), to produce and adapt content that translates academic research into clear, engaging, nonpartisan narratives for policymakers, practitioners, and the public. The MIT Election Data + Science Lab conducts research into the practice of elections by collecting, disseminating, and analyzing data, and serves as a bridge to like-minded researchers and practitioners. Will be responsible for drafting or adapting content, including blog posts, social media content, newsletters, website content, and marketing materials, for effective communication with practitioners, journalists, and the public; writing short, timely analyses or summaries that provide context for current events and emerging issues of public interest; gathering information and impacts from academic research; summarizing and translating research findings into digestible guidance for election officials and policymakers; supporting the development of new products that communicate complex research findings in an engaging way, while maintaining MEDSL’s institutional voice and dedication to scientific rigor; assisting with the implementation and assessment of outreach efforts, including researching target audiences and identifying potential communication channels; and creating and posting social media content across a range of platforms.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, or related field; a minimum of one year experience in communication, marketing, or related field; strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills; experience with social media tools and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products; proactive approachto responsibilities; and ability to work in a team-oriented group. PREFERRED: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and Drupal a plus; some experience in engaging audiences and stakeholders; and interest in or experience with research and data related to public policy, political science, or the administration of elections.
The position may include limited travel to attend conferences and workshops, and occasional after-hours work in the form of special events (e.g., a weekend conference) and occasional social media posts of real-time lab work.
