    Primary Function of Organizational Unit

    NCCU School of Education offers undergraduate, graduate, licensure and professional development programs to train students to become teachers, principals, counselors, as well as serve as mentors to community schools. The School offers traditional, classroom-based instruction as well online instruction. Faculty and staff bring diverse knowledge and experience, provide students with a unique learning experience; teach in small classroom size for easier access to each other and their instructors, and employ the latest technology.

    Primary Purpose of Position

    The Supplemental Instruction Coordinator II plans and facilitates instruction and remediation for students taking exit exam such as Praxis II and Pearson tests. These are content area tests that all candidates must pass prior to Student Teaching. The SIC II will support students in Gateways 2-5. The SIC II will teach an in-person and/or hybrid course (EDU 2020) each semester that supplements teacher education while maintaining Title III records and logs, individual plans for students and other documents and reports pertaining to instruction, Title III, and the unit.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    A successful candidate should have knowledge and experience with preparation requirements for teacher education candidates in North Carolina. The candidate must be able to lead academic remediation that enhances student’s engagement, success, and overall development in the Teacher Education program. The SIC will ensure the quality and integrity of Supplemental Instruction programs through assessment and cooperation with all education pathways leading to licensure and all accrediting bodies. The SIC will assist the School of Education in the achievement of satisfactory student Praxis and Pearson test scores goals by remaining abreast of current literature, research, issues, trends and innovations in higher education. The SIC must demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and develop productive working relationships with multiple stakeholders. The SIC will conduct other assignments and duties as assigned by the Dean and the Title III Director and as appropriate to the position of Supplemental Education Coordinator.

    Minimum Education/Experience

    The candidate must possess a Master’s degree from an accredited institution/program in a relevant field. A minimum of three (3) years related public school teaching experience or public school professional administrative experience is required.

     

    Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation

     

    NC Teaching License or eligibility for NC Teaching License strongly preferred.

    Primary Responsibilities and Duties

    **Function** Instructional

     

    Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

     

    + Provides support for candidates in Gateway 2-5 taking the Teacher Education Program Exit Exam (i.e. Praxis II Content Areas including Math, Science, Social Studies, English Language Arts, Special Education, Modern Foreign Language, Dance, Theatre, Music and Physical Education and Pearson Foundation of Reading).

    + Teach an in-person and/or hybrid course each semester (EDU 2020) on Praxis II preparation (ie. Praxis II Content Areas and Pearson Foundations of Reading).

    + Managing and record keeping on Canvas.

    + Co-manage student use of the Praxis Lab.

    + Create individual student success plans based on the needs of the student and individualized content area tests.

    + Cultivate a collaborative learning atmosphere by promoting peer-to-peer engagement and facilitating group discussions.

    + Engage with faculty to ensure instructional support aligns with curriculum standards.

    + Ensure that students receive comprehensive and cohesive guidance.

    + Solicit regular feedback from students to enhance the effectiveness of the instruction offered.

     

    Other tasks as assigned by the Dean’s office and Title III Director.

     

    **Function** Administrative

     

    Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

     

    + Maintain detailed records, attendance logs, and individual study success plans, along with strategies and assistance for all participants, as well as documentation related to supplemental instruction.

    + Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly reports to meet Title III program requirements.

    + Collaborate with Title III and other departments.

    + Assist in hiring and supervising a Graduate Assistant.

    + Assist with writing the annual grant proposal.

    + Assist in managing the Title III budget.

    + Communicate promptly with all stakeholders through email and other channels.

    + Oversee all data portals for the department.

    + Develop and implement workshops and study sessions designed to cater to the diverse needs of students preparing for the Praxis II exam.

    + Analyze student performance data to pinpoint areas requiring extra support and create targeted intervention strategies to bridge these gaps.

    + Other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned by the Dean’s office and Title III Director.

    **Function** Information Technology

     

    Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.

     

    + Co-Manage the Praxis Lab.

    + Provide students with password, instruction and support for Software Programs purchased through Title III funds and other web based resources.
