Summary
The Senior Environmental Manager is responsible for compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulatory programs for the assigned Perdue facility. This position provides technical support for site facility operations personnel at all levels of responsibility and completes environmental regulatory recordkeeping and reporting. Environmental permitting, reporting, training, sample collection, budget development and management, environmental metrics collection and reporting, and root cause analysis of incidents are among other position responsibilities. The environmental areas of responsibility include but are not limited to; a stormwater NPDES permit, a Title V Air Permit, Stack Testing and Flame Ionization Detection (FID) analysis, NTNC Public Water System, Tier II and TRI reporting requirements and other facility specific plans permits including SPCC, FRP and consumptive water use among others.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
+ Ensure day to day production activities are conducted in accordance with the environmental requirements established by permits and local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
+ Supervise and manage general associates including hiring, training and developing associates to ensure environmental requirements and corporate sustainability goals are met.
+ Provides timely, accurate and consistent reports to internal and external customers including attending and holding regular communication meetings. Practices good community, public, and regulatory relations.
+ Provides a safe work environment for all associates by eliminating unsafe acts or conditions, and adhering to all company safety policies including but not limited to PPE, LOTO, and Process Safety Management.
+ Present and explain the permit requirements to the signatory responsible officials on a regular basis.
+ Provides notification of activities, spill releases and non-compliance in a timely manner. Conduct environmental audits, inspections, and emergency response as needed.
Minimum Education
Bachelors degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Biological Science plus 8 years related work experience.
Experience Requirements
Must possess strong organizational skills and effective remote and in-person verbal and written communication. Must meet requirements of the Company safety handbook. Must have knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations and ability to perform environmental calculations. Ability to travel to remote facilities and/or offices for meetings. Ability to grasp new software applications for recordkeeping and state/federal reporting of environmental data.
Experience Preferred
MS degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or a natural science. Visual opacity certification or ability to pass opacity training within 6 months of hire.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
1. Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
2. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
3. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
4. Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
5. Walking for an extended period of time may be required.
6. When in a plant environment:
• Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces.
• May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity.
• May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
• May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db to 110 db.
• May be exposed to all chemicals found in poultry, food and processing plant.
• Must wear and use protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company
