1. Contributes to basic and applied research activities and authors scientific publications, technical and agency reports, and patent preparations.2. Department Specific Functions
Job Summary (Purpose and Function):
The Assistant Scientist will lead or participate in multiple drug discovery programs. The work involves biological mechanistic studies, as well as drug discovery approaches that include AI-guided drug design, assay development and automation, Live Cell Painting, and cell- and organoid-based NAMs.
Accountabilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):
1. Develop and perform high content screening and other cell-based assays.2. Develop and perform enzymatic assays to test kinase inhibitors.3. Develop organoid and 3D-model-based assays for hit validation and lead optimization.4. Do routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT-PCR, prepare viral vectors) to support the in vitro and in vivo experiments.5. Perform immunohistochemical staining, microscopy, and image analysis.6. Supervise graduate and undergraduate students and junior lab members.7. Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies, participate in weekly lab meetings, including presenting results and methods to group members; plan weekly work schedules. Keep detailed laboratory notebooks and maintain documents relating to standard-operating procedures and vectors. Prepare first drafts of manuscripts.8. Optional: perform medicinal chemistry synthesis.9. Optional: perform in vivo experiments using rodent models to test the efficacy of lead candidates.10. Occasionally assist in training Post Docs, graduate students, undergraduates, and scholars.11. Education:Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or related field
Certification and Licensing:Not Applicable
Experience:Prior experience in assay development, cell-based assays, and biochemical assays is desirable. Experience in screening, drug discovery, and drug development is ideal.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:• Ability to operate equipment and software for laboratory automation• Ability to work both independently and within a team• Ability to write code and program in MATLAB, R, or Python is desirable
